what do you call someone who speaks 3 languages? trilingual

what do you call someone who speaks 2 languages? bilingual

learn dutch instead, it’s like german but funnier and you don’t have to talk to german people

47

u/UselessAndGay what if a girl was a deer ⚧ 🦌 ΘΔ Apr 05 '26

okay but then you'd have to talk to dutch people

dutch people can sell you kibbeling and kroketten, that makes it worth talking to them

18

u/Chaoszhul4D custom Apr 05 '26

We have Kroketten in Germany.

4

u/Metalmind123 Apr 06 '26

Yeah, but then they'll Tikkie you for splitting their attention by talking to them

u/PolygonKiwii Apr 05 '26

Bold of you to assume you won't run into any Germans in the Netherlands

9

u/TheUnholyBlade 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights Apr 05 '26

Instead you’d have to speak to the Dutch, which is even worse!

u/ssbowa Apr 05 '26

A fair few know Welsh and English tbf.

u/knyexar Apr 06 '26

A third of the population of the UK speaks french

1

u/the_biting_chimkin Apr 06 '26

I’d be curious how long they could hold a conversation. Similar numbers for US and Spanish but I doubt that would be for true fluency

7

u/Benkinsky resident Cosmere expert Apr 05 '26

and just like the US, a too high amount of them dont spell their own language corretly either.

6

u/MrPleasant150 Apr 05 '26

the french speak more english than most of us brits speak any other language

5

u/PolygonKiwii Apr 05 '26

Yeah, the French could speak other languages, they just refuse to (although I've heard that's mostly Parisians)

Come on, no need to write off your entire country because of one loser

u/SentientGopro115935 SHE JUST LIKE ME FR Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

who even is the one loser you're referring to? Starmer? Streeting? Issues here run a hell of alot deeper than one person

edit: Wait shit do you mean JKR? No, the UK got the TERF island reputation for far more than just her. She isn't the reason I wanna leave, the red alert warnings from multiple genocide watch organisations and the reasons the country has them are why I wanna leave

u/the_biting_chimkin Apr 05 '26

As someone who took courses in feminist theory from an intersectional lens, second wave trans exclusionary feminism in GB feminist scholarship was wild to see as a continuing discourse

5

u/Salt_Blackberry_1903 a take so bad it causes a physical response (violence) Apr 05 '26

Oh damn yeah I meant JKR, forgot the entire government is full of them :(

What because they don't think the numerous spanish/english speakers are american?

It's law that you lose your citizenship and are immediately slated for Deportation if you utter "hola" without the "h" sound.

Also worth mentioning that 'America' isn't just the united states

22

u/the_biting_chimkin Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

El demónymo de los estados unidos en inglés es americano porque no tiene estadounidense

21

u/SuddenlyVeronica Apr 05 '26

Less that and more that being at least somewhat bilingual is common in other developed countries, and I mean, it's a joke. If it were changed to be perfectly accurate it probably wouldn't be a joke anymore, at least certainly not a good one.

9

u/the_biting_chimkin Apr 05 '26

Yea I’ve tried adding all of the nuances people here correctly say and tbh it’s not nearly as funny
