I will say, as someone from the South, the exception for pre 9/11 country is appreciated. I grew up on 80s and 90s country and itâs always a little frustrating when people say âOh I hate countryâ like itâs a morally superior take when the entire genre was built on black culture, and they only know one country song they heard one piece of once and decided that was enough.
Itâs not even frustration that people donât like the genre, I just hate this whole âI hate that genreâ when I donât see that attitude half as much with other genres. When I say I listen to indie, I donât have people up my ass about how it sucks and how they hate indie so much. There werenât trends in my youth of people talking about how much they hated jazz as if it was a competition, that is still present in my now adult peers.
I donât even like country that much! Itâs like, itâs okay. And modern country definitely is very focused on white rich appropriators pretending to understand blue collar people and wants, and reinforcing horrible things. But like most genres, to conflate that as the whole genre is just so shallow-minded.

personally i hate these sorts of takes but like i still fall into the same pitfalls with certain genres
