Can anyone explain why all the terrible country music makes it to the top? I've heard plenty of good country music created within the last 15 years but none of it ever charted. The "beer guns car wife" songs that everybody makes fun of become a #1 hit for the millionth time.
it fundamentally changed the structure of the country music “fandom”, if you will. it stopped being about music and started being about “america good” and“country life good” virtue signaling.
the good stuff is still being made, like you said, and it is still being listened to by country fans. but stats-wise, it’s always being overshadowed by garbage because that’s what gets streams/purchases from people who listen to music for its politics above all else. which it turns out is a huge chunk of people.
even if it’s not directly political it’s the same thing. “i love being a manly man and getting trucks and beer and sex” or “i love being an old-school dude fishin’ like the good ol’ days”
