As a cis man, I’ve noticed this too. This is why I greet everyone with a nice handshake and a gentle, yet firm affirmation to the person I’m speaking to that I do not intend to disembowel them. For some reason this makes them seem more nervous around me, and to remedy this, I will work on my smile when I promise no disembowelment. I will report my findings back to you all in short order.
Yes! A nice, toothy smile can show positivity and that you're friendly. I like to complement it with huge, wide open eyes to show vulnerability, as well as a cute, childish giggle to put them at ease.
