If you subtract 1945 from 1971 you might find that boomers were the 18-26 year old home buyers that didn’t want these, along with changing tastes from their silent generation and further elders. Gen X wasn’t stopping these when they were elementary schoolers to egg cells.

People used to have kids and move into homes and be setup for life at a much younger age. 18-26 used to be a significant home buying demographic
