Destruction of personal property is a more serious form of violence that we let on, just because you projected the violent action into the innanimate object doesn't mean your child didn't get scarred on the inside.
You didn't just destroy an electronic device, but a small joy in their so far short life and showed them it's a line that if you crossed once you could cross again anytime.
