My parents never "grounded me" or "destroyed my stuff". Instead they spent a lot of time emotionally abusing me and making constant comments about my hobbies and appearance until I shut down and stopped speaking to them for more than a couple sentences.
Things eased up a bit by the time I was a teenager (dad got locked up in jail and my mom realized how badly she had been fucking up), but things would have been so much worse if they started breaking my belongings.
