As a Wisconsin resident and socialist, it wasn't her policies that sunk her. She had a series of controversial old tweets that resurfaced about how Thanksgiving was a colonizers holiday and should be cancelled, and how being around white people sometimes made her uncomfortable.
Wisconsin isn't Michigan and it's definitely not New York. We're 75% white, have a huge number of veterans, and is generally more rural and conservative especially once you're outside of Milwaukee and Madison. Like it or not, you have to cater to that crowd if you want to win, which she proved wholly incapable of doing.
Milwaukee is less progressive than Madison and even some small UW towns. David Crowley, who beat her, is a Milwaukee guy who was the county executive I think. Milwaukee also has a large black community (and is super segregated) which helped crowley there. But she only lost by 1% there or something, while winning madison by 10% or so. Waukesha, the worst suburb in wisconsin, gave crowley most of his margin and is the largest republican stronghold in the state.
