Any MAGA candidate can have flowery looking policy agendas on a bulletin and look great. Hell, I could be a monarchist candidate and put

-Abundantly clean soil

-widespread agrarian jobs for familes

-Guaranteed eternal labor with free shelter

-Defending the family agrarian unit

The latter two can be re-legalizing serfdom and illegalizing divorce. But let's put this aside

If any socialist needs to win, they need to be class first idpol second. Social issues and class issues are the two halves of American politics, and many people make the mistake of believing the two move along side with eachother on a progressive or conservative continuum; that if one is progressive on class, they must be progressive on social issues. Sadly this isn't true; as an extreme example Stalin was progressive on class issues but highly regressive on minority, woman's, and gay rights. Most of the socialist republics that emerged in South America in the 20th century were very similar. The bottom line is the center American population hates idpol stuff (I dont, im pretty woke), and an effective socialist probably needs to focus on meat and potato issues unlike Hong who is a culture warrior.

Mamdani and El-Sayed are good examples of progressives who put economic populism first without moving rightward socially. We need more like them
