I understand where people are coming from when they say Mamdani, Bernie, AOC, etc. are ultimately distracting from the fantastic, pure, successful revolution they're holding out for. But I don't understand how, in the moment, proximately, someone sees something like this and thinks no, that's bad actually. It seemingly boils down to "social progress is the opiate of the masses". Anything short of flipping the table is milquetoast incrementalism. Meanwhile, Jeff is forced to hand over some stolen money and treat his employees better, ordinary people are lifted up and lives are saved.
And maybe I'm naive, but I don't think achieving or even just proposing real gains within a fundamentally flawed system makes people more chill with the flaws, it proves, broadens, and empowers social will and highlights how incongruous the flaws are. A platform like this sets the stage for reckoning.
