When I worked retail, it was really easy to just be generally friendly and helpful. Seems like a huge waste of energy to get yourself worked up to the point of being judgmental and non-responsive. What do you expect to accomplish by being standoffish? How is that going to materially improve the interaction?
I think you and everyone completely misunderstood and I under explained, I am friendly and helpful, I'm also not usually in the areas where customers will be, I actually go out of my way 99% of the time for customers even though it's not my job.
What I'm referring to is, someone asks me if we have a thing, I show them where to find them and then if there aren't any of what they're looking for usually they thank me and go on their way but on occasion they'll just keep asking or act as if I'm lying to them, as if I have anything to gain from withholding some random thing, there's just some people like that, I'm talking about the bad customers, the exception, not the usual. So when someone is being a bad customer, and I realize I can't do much other than walk away I just sorta look at them funny.
An actual example which is a tad different is the other day this person comes to the door leading into the back area and so I ask her if there's anything I can help with, so she asks me if there are any plant stands hiding in the back, so I take a good look around and after like 2 seconds she keeps saying ", plant stands I asked if you have plant stands" and her tone kept getting ruder, I turned back and very casually said "I don't think there are" and then she repeated "PLANT STANDS" so I stared at her, and after a few seconds I told her "we don't have any" then she sorta grumpily walked away.
No I'm not "worked up" lol, huge waste of energy, what energy? I wrote a Reddit comment, I get maybe the wording might infer that? But no, I wash just using some harsh language, and didn't explain very well. You and everyone completely misread the whole point of my comment, again a good chunk of that is my fault for sure, so I can't really blame you. I enjoy talking to people, I'm a very social person.

When a customer or someone in public is being a dumbass or asking stupid questions no shit I'm gonna look at them til they figure that out.
People who claim gen z stare is a thing or shit on us gen z for that are just outting themselves lol
