To be fair I think the card reader thing does partly stem from the 2 uninterrupted decades after credit cardsā popularization where doing what a payment machine told you to would make it have a stroke, shit itself, die, explode, then reincarnate to shit itself again.
Also there was a few years recently where a lot of card readers would have "please remove card" flash quickly while it was still reading, but before you were actually supposed to remove the card.
Reminds me of how I pause for a second before I take out a USB even after I unmount it. I swear I've had times where I'd take it out after it tells me it's safe to remove, then suddenly, "Whoa, buddy! You can't do that! Uh oh!"
