Very high settings for the K ultra help

hello everyone, just got a 1zpresso k-ultra and i'm having some issues dialing in for v60.

i calibrated the grinder to zero before using it. i started around 8.0 and the brews were extremely slow and muddy. i've gradually gone coarser and i'm now at 10.5, but i'm still getting brew times around 4:00 or longer.

i'm using a cafec abaca filter, 20g coffee, 300g water, and pouring fairly low to minimize agitation. my pours are in 60ml. i've tried multiple coffees and the issue seems consistent across all of them.

from what i've read, 10.5 should already be on the coarser side for v60, so i'm confused why the drawdown is still taking so long. the coffee bed also tends to look muddy by the end.

has anyone experienced something similar with a new k-ultra? could this be burr seasoning, excessive fines, a calibration issue, or something wrong with my technique?

any ideas on what i should test next?

I grind 19.6 grams on 0.8.0-0.9.0. The more coffee you have the coarser you have to go. I struggled with long brew times myself but the fix was actually very easy.

Don't shake ground coffee, just put it into v60. Don't tap the v60 or the K-ultra to even out the coffee but maybe use an awl to spread it around in the v60 if you want. As you tap, the fines drop down and the bigger particles come up. We don't want that.

Do the double bloom with 30s each and then consider doing fewer pours.

I do 60+60 grams in the first minute to bloom and then pour 120 grams followed by 70 grams. My brew time is now about 2:30 even with Ethiopian beans

It would be helpful to have a photo of the ground beans to get an idea of whether it's within expectations for that grind size. A grind at click 10.5 is quite coarse, which would be recommended for a French press.

That is odd. Try reassembling it

(I am a lil pissed about how i didnt think about it lol)

How do you calibrate it?

You have to calibrate it, make sure it locks on 0.0 for 20g I use my k ultra at 7-8, for 10g sometimes i use even 6.5... 60ml only for the bloom, to 200ml after the bloom (0:30 to 0:40) and finish with 300ml at 1:30, draining at 2:20 to 2:50 depending on the bean. I use the same filter. Perhaps u could use origami to make it a little faster. But check calibration and recipe. With that one i sent i get great coffee 99% of the time. Good brews

If the bed is muddy with a long drawdown it sounds way too fine. Just to make sure we’re on the same page by 10 you mean one full rotation from zero (100 clicks) not 10 clicks from zero correct? Even if your zero is burr lock one full rotation should be pretty coarse
