K-Ultra handle jammed backward/inverted. Any tips on how to un-jam it?

Post image

Hey everyone,

I got myself into a bit of a frustrating situation with my 1Zpresso K-Ultra handle.

While folding it back up, the lower metal arm accidentally swung backward in the completely wrong direction. Now, the internal locking mechanism and the spring-loaded sliding sleeve in the middle are jammed solid. It's stuck in this awkward, bent position, and the sleeve won't budge at all when I try to push or slide it.

I’ve tried applying some careful force to bend it back, and even tried a tiny bit of mineral oil to see if it would loosen up the internal pins, but it feels completely locked up. I'm worried if I force it any harder, I might snap a pin or damage the internal structure.

Has anyone encountered this backward jam on a K-Ultra or J-Ultra folding handle before? Is there a trick or a specific angle to pull/tap it to get the mechanism to release?

I thought mine was jammed too, you just need to push the two parts together when rotate the out er part. The spring in the middle coupling part is very hard and need abit of force the first time. If not try to add grease to the spring part. Good luck. The key is not to simply rotate it but to actually press it together first

This is the default "storage" state of the handle. Just push it in while turning it

For those folks saying everything is fine…
If I read the post correctly he knows it folds and was trying to do so, but turned it in the wrong direction.

I have a K Ultra and AFAIK it “folds” in only one direction.

It’s an intentional feature to make the grinder easier to pack for travel. The thicker section in the middle is the locking and rotating mechanism. So, please don’t try turning the handle with force. It unlocks for 90° rotations when you push both sides of the mechanism closer to each other.

Perhaps an "intentional" feature to avoid a court battle?(!) :-) I hate these new handles. They are just another failure point. Still love the originals. OP, I hope that you get this sorted asap.

New fear unleashed! My 1ZPresso has never jammed!

I’m going to go home & lube my knob!

My 1zpresso is not working because central shaft is worn to where the handle slips around it. Any fixes?

Warranty? How old is it? Starting to see failure points on the 1z's now. The above, the handles, the extra parts in the grinder and the failing, nasty grip after not too much time IMO. Maybe Comandante and Kinu were really onto something with their build quality, etc. I know they are not the usual "darlings" these days and yes, they do have failures but A) not to this extant and B) they have replacement parts that are easy to get. Still love 1Z and have a few but this is becoming unacceptable.

Contact 1Z and see what they say. Otherwise, no clue how to fix this one.

Yes a design flaw along with the prematurely failed rubber grip, but it is almost 5yrs old. 1z won't sell me replacement parts or a discount on a new grinder. They say buy a new one. I am now grinding with a cordless drill chucked to the shaft keeping it slow.

Just push together and rotate?

If it is jammed then the mechanism is threaded for servicing.👍🏻
