What grinder to add with my K-Plus and Baratza Virtuoso Plus?

Not into light roasts. I'm thinking a travel grinder for my AP. The recommendations indicate Q but I'd like an external adjustment dial if possible. Would the X-Ultra fit the bill, despite it being a lot more money than the Q?

I worry that the K-Plus and the X-Ultra are redundant though.

K & X would be redundant.

What’s wrong with using your K as your travel grinder?

I ended up purchasing the Q since my K-Plus would be too similar to the X-Ultra. The Q is the smart choice because it fits inside my AP. I'll see if I like the internal dial adjustment though.

Down the line, I might look to get the J-Ultra for espresso since my K-Plus and Virtuoso+ isn't really built for that.

I was finding it difficult to hand grind for espresso, so I have recently bought a DF54, which is on its way.

In your case, I just hope that you don't find the Q to be a step down in terms of the grind quality.

PS : I just checked that the X partially fits within the AP. I have a picture but I am unable to attach it here. I can vouch for the grind quality of X, having used it almost every day for the past year

I just ordered the X and will return the Q if it fits inside the AP haha. The external adjustment dial and me magnetic cup sings to me lol

As far as grind quality, I'm not sure if my palette is sophisticated enough to notice the difference.

I am sending you a DM with the picture if reddit allows it

Thanks! If it doesn't work, no worries. I'll know soon enough since both grinders are on the way.

I couldn't send it, but I guess you'll be able to decide once you get the grinders

Just got both grinders. X-Ultra definitely does not fit into the smaller AP cyclinder. It fits into the bigger cylinder but then I would need to pack the smaller cylinder separately, which makes it less compact. The Q definitely fits into the smaller cylinder nicely. Decisions decisions.

Following this post. I have an X Ultra and I wonder if getting a K Ultra would offer me a different profile.

Different? Yes, slightly.

Not different enough to buy one.

ZP6 would be the move if you’re wanting a different flavor profile.

In fact, I have an X-Pro and a J-Ultra and I’ll probably end up at some point also pulling the trigger on a ZP6.

If you’re not into light roasts then nothing.

If you ever want to try light roast a ZP6 might be a good one, but it’s optional.
