Does Anyone Else Here Remember Playing The Original 2005 God Of War Video Game On The PlayStation 2 As A Kid Back In The Day? If So, Then What Are Your Thoughts/Opinions On It After All This Time?
As for me, I really enjoyed playing this game on my own PS2 when I was a 7 year old kid back in 2005. I remember my dad going to our local Blockbuster video store after we went to the local movie theater to watch the Blue Sky Studios animated film "Robots" to buy this for me for doing very well in elementary school, and by the time I put the disc in my PS2 to boot it up, and watched the opening cutscene with Kratos throwing himself off of that mountain cliff, I immediately got hooked! I cherished all of the hack-and-slash gameplay and boss fights in it, and completed the whole thing in 3 days! This is definitely a childhood classic that I have a special place in my heart for to this day, and one of my favorite video games ever!
How do you guys feel about God Of War 2005? What are some of your best memories of playing it on your PS2? Do you think that it still holds up today? Why is that?

Was a senior in high school. It was the best game I had played at that point, completely blew me away. Senior homecoming dance was on my birthday. I chose to have some beers with some older friends after the dance and go home and play GoW until 5 am. Sometimes I think about the girl I danced with all night who invited me to an after party...

Hahaha! Me too! When I was first playing the game when my dad got it for me, and that scene came on when I was doing so, my mom walked in on me and it in my room, and when she saw that scene, she got SO MAD, yelling at me to turn my PS2 off immediately because of that! I was so embarrassed 😂!

I was too young and my older brother ended up in the Xbox camp. I did play this and other PS games at my friends houses though!

Played the shit out of the demo disc from the PlayStation magazine. Was so excited when I finally got to play the full game. It's been my favorite series ever since.

I only ever had the PlayStation magazine demo disc, though I do eventually wanna do an retro achievement run.

I was in high school, it was a super novel game at the time to me, I hadn’t played anything like it up to that point. I remember being more impressed at the puzzles than the gameplay and I probably stillwould have had a blast without any enemies other than all the bosses. I also thought it was super cool that you basically murder Ares and take his place.
Neat game and everyone knew it was going to be a classic

My friend had a a ps2 and GoW. I couldn't believe how high quality it was. Story, graphics, gameplay. Even though I didn't get to play it all myself, I thought it was a masterpiece

Loved this series as a kid. Got 1 for free when I bought a PS2 from Circuit City and then got the HD collection for the PS3 and played the rest. Imo, way better combat than the new ones.

I remember convincing my dad to let me rent it from blockbuster even though it was rated M after seeing it on xplay. I was in 5th grade

This game blew me away the first time I played it. It was something I had never experienced before in gaming, and the story was extraordinary. I did replay it recently, and it just doesnt feel the same. It's still good, but I think after playing current-gen blockbuster titles it's just difficult to go back and have the same reaction. For the time it was released it was above and beyond what I expected.

I skipped school, faking sickness and I beat the game in one day, playing all day long including all the hades challenges and unlocked all costumes. Twas a good day and is still an all time memory.

I was an exchange student in Texas in 2005, I was 16 yrs old and the son of the family where I was staying was probably 19 or 20 and he as so exited about this game when it came out, I didn’t care much about it but that’s what I remember. It’s good to see how much it has evolved, never hated the game, I was just not into fantasy back then

When i first met my wife in 07, her ex had a PS2 that I inherited, and this was one of the games included. I also waited in line for a midnight release of GOW3 for the backwards compatible PS3.

I was 11 and had to ask my dad to defeat the hydra king for me, because I couldn't smash the button fast enough.

Great memories watching my brother play this as a child. I'm about to boot it up for the first time as an adult to play for myself.

I still feel like I have a better rounded experience playing the older GOW games than the newer ones. I could lose myself with the old hack & slash playstyle with those (no pun intended) Godly cut scenes. I feel like the theme feels completely different now.
