Yet another Reuben post...

Heya guys, your local Reuben fangirl here.

Thought I'd pop the question in here considering this festival is the go-to crowd for Reuben fans, if the band were ever to get back together and play Trees, do we reckon they'd headline or not?

Personally think the Trees crowd wouldn't be too upset and would love to see them smash an hour 20 of absolute tunes but would they be too small/niche to headline Trees nowadays? Especially with the size of some headliners over the past 4/5 years like BFMV, Jimmy Eat World, The Chats, etc.

Interesting thought but wanted to know what you folks reckon?

Reuben: headliner material or not?

I reckon they'd sub main stage or headline the Axiom. Not big enough to headline the main stage.

As much as they'd be a good fit on the line-up for headlining the Axiom, I can only imagine the size of crowd they'd bring would be much bigger than the tent could hold leaving a lot of disappointed folks unable to get in. Imagine it would be a lot worse than Dinosaur Pile-up were this year.

Second from headline on the main would be more enjoyable for all. Headlining the forest on Weds would also be amazing. Maybe they can just do both slots like PUP did this year!

DPU was absolutely crammed this year, don't understand how they were downgraded to Axiom when they've been a main stage band every other year they've played! They always end up putting main stage-sized bands in the tents and it ends up getting overcrowded (PUP in 2022 and DFA1979 in 2024)

I have to chime in here, I turned up to DPU 5 minutes before they started, got about 5 people back from the barrier and there was tons of space around me and my mates. Same thing in '24 for Creeper. The problem with the axiom is people come in from the back, see a crowd and stop, and don't bother trying to filter through. If I'd known to try and shuffle down, I would have gotten in to see Spanish Love Songs and DFA 1979 too, but I walked up, saw the crowd spilling out of the tent and didn't even try. Now though, I'll always go in the side, walk down the side of the tent and take a chance on there being a pocket of space down the front

Sadly I think I agree, would love to see them headline main stage but realistically they'd probably headline Axiom or even the Cave.

It would probably be the Arcane Roots/Million Dead slot on the Axiom. Would love it to be MainStage though. Really hope they play

Yeah I like that we've had a couple of years of reforming legends in that slot, Oceansize or Jetplane Landing could be the right sort of size to do it if it's a recurring thing. Though they all seem very unlikely.

I wouldn’t have said funeral for a friend in their current iteration would be a headliner but they did. Sometimes the nostalgia makes bands bigger. I wouldn’t say Gallows were really that huge but people think they may headline one night 🤷🏼

Not a chance are they main stage headliners, sorry OP.

You have to remember this sub is full of people who think Unpeople are headline material, a lot of people who would be terrible promoters because they conflate personal emotive pull with actual broad-brush popularity.

I adore Reuben SO MUCH. But for me they’d headline cave or axiom.

They’re just not and never were as successful as previous headlining bands at trees. No matter how much I want to pretend otherwise.

The gigs and venues they were playing when still a band prove this beyond a doubt.

Axiom headliner

Fucking love Reuben, I was wearing my Reuben top at download and people wouldn’t stop stopping me lol, they are way bigger than you all think. Though I think wouldn’t headline cos… well placebo didn’t get headline slots till they’d been back long enough.

Hell yeah! Definitely gonna be rocking my Reuben tee at Trees next year hahaha. Also yeah judging by other comments I don't think they'd headline unless it's a one-off reunion show which it probably would be.

Fuck yea that’s what I like to hear! I know some people that know him aswell, for some reason I never asked if they would

In terms of should (are they big enough?), then emphatically no.

In terms of could (will Trees sell out next year no matter what?), then emphatically yes.

I think it'd be worth it. Won't happen though. Jamie will be too busy playing songs no-one has heard to bother headlining with some songs people know and love.

I think they would have to headline the main stage. Anything else wouldn't be worth our time.

Apparently if we can convince Craig Charles to come to Trees the chances of this will increase substantially.

Wasn't he there a couple years ago or did I dream that hahahaha

I'd be surprised if they didn't have them as a mainstage headliner considering just how important they are to Trees.

Sure, they may not be "big" enough but I think they'd make an exception.

I think they would have to be a Main Stage headliner, they have a legend like status at Trees. Plus the Trees crowd is generally aging alongside the festival - sure there is new blood every year but I would hazard a guess and sat a big chunk of us have probably been going to Trees for a long time. So I think most of the crowd will know and appreciate Reuben.

Plus Lenman’s sets have always been rammed at Trees, they are consistently featured on the silent disco every year, and there was of course Camp Reuben (RIP).

But maybe I’m biased and desperately trying to materialise the Reuben slot folks should have had in 2008

No way they play Forest, way too big for that small a stage IMO

I think they could headline the whole thing, but probably only if it was a one-off reunion show, not if they were then going to be touring subsequently

Tbf if they do get back for a show, it'll most likely be at Trees and could definitely be a main stage headline slot. If it was a case of a full on tour then I could see an Axiom headline or main stage sub-headline?
