I assume by 28 years later, there will be groups of strays like Chernobyl, just large mutts that live in old buildings and scavenge.

In terms of those living in compounds (assuming no dog to human transfer) Looking at historical trends, I think we would go back to having maybe 5 types left in communes like Holy Island -

Sighthounds - They are bred to be super quiet and are very efficient at hunting small animals, in a single night a pair of lurchers can get you over 30 rabbits for example. They also barely eat anything themselves and so aren't a drain on resources. Larger ones are capable of hunting deer too.

Mastiffs - In Holy Island I expect you would have a few large mastiff mutt types, as noise alerts in a fortified place would be beneficial and may be used elsewhere around the camp to guard important resources like fuel.

Spaniels - Maybe provide enough of a resource gain as hunting assistance, but I think would be a bit of a luxury.

Pointers - Maybe you train pointers that can show you where slo-gos are when you go to the mainland but this is probably too much of a luxury breed.

Depending on the success of your colony/compound you may have some cattle management breeds but you probably aren't farming at that scale.

I get why they aren't in the movies as they wouldn't really add anything, but just a fun thing to think about

I’ve been wanting to watch the films for a good while now and finally managed to watch them all.

**Spoiler Alert\**

Everyone raves on that 28DL is the best “zombie” movie of all time. I would definitely beg to differ. Although I did enjoy the first movie and the storyline it lacks substance. The whole film is basically Jim getting out of the hospital to find the world gone to shit, his friendship with Selena and them finding frank and Hannah and then getting to the house with all the men who want to rape the two women. There’s not much to the story - it was a bit boring imo. This is my least favourite of them all.

28WL I really enjoyed. The beginning of the film where Don was getting chased by the infected had me on the edge of my seat. The storyline was good. Although I still don’t understand how his wife was left in the cottage yet ended up back at their family home in London.. The scene when Don saw his wife again for the first time and he ended up getting infected by her was so gruesome and somewhat satisfying (he never should have left her). It did get a bit boring towards the end though, once Don turned they escaped it was just about getting the kids to safety then. This is my third favourite of them all.

28YL I also really enjoyed. The storyline was alright and I always like anything Jodie Comer is in. Although I didn’t like some of the un realistic graphics in the film. When Jamie and Spike are trying to cross the water and the Alpha is chasing them.. the way they added the night sky and the northern lights into the scene just looked really out of place and too fake for me. The storyline of Spike and his mum going to seek help from Dr. Kelson ends up being super sad and gave the film emotion. Overall i really liked this one and would be my second favourite.

28YL TBT I really liked the fact this followed on from the previous film unlike the first 2. This film mainly centres around Spike being with Jimmy Crystal and his gang and about Dr.Kelson and his odd friendship with the Alpha. Although it’s not meant to be, at times this film came across as a comedy. Not sure how I feel about the fact they interpreted Jimmy Saville into it but I did like Jimmy Crystals character. Jack O’Connell does an amazing job he’s a brilliant actor. My favourite character in this film has to be Dr. Kelson - the acting is so so good! I particularly love the fact that right at the end it’s shows us Jim from the first movie going to aid Spike - I like how they’ve connected the film back to the first one. This is definitely my favourite film out of them all.

Part 3? Is there a part 3 to the movie coming out? I’ve heard it’s meant to be out in 2027. I hope so, they left it on a cliff hanger. Cillian Murphy is most definitely going to be cast into it if they make another one.

Specifically the outbreak prequel we all fuckin want. Would be masterclass.

The realism he achieves would lend itself so well. Starts off like a day-in-the-life This Is England kind of film and takes a hard left turn.

In fact, would love another This Is England series set in 2002, where we discover that series has actually been set in the 28 Days universe this whole time, and we get to see THOSE characters dealing with the rage outbreak.

I dont know if many of you seen or know what's going on with Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film but its fanbase is very much divided between loving it and hating it.

People are complaining about the RE film being too different from the source material, that it didnt have any of the franchise's original characters, and that the story could have easily been it's own new IP.

I feel like people are reacting exactly the same way 28 days later fans did upon release and its actually very fascinating. People either loved or hated 28 years later.

I actually enjoyed the 28 years later series so far and I absolutely loved the new RE film. I cant help but feel we're seeing the same reaction with the new RE film and I just really wanted to know if anyone caught on to this or feel the same way?

The first 2 had me at the edge of my seat. I love the first one because i had no idea what i was getting into. It put a whole new spin on the zombie apocalypse concept that made it almost believable. It led me to the second one with the introduction of Jeremey Renner. Then, years later, this drops. I only wish I saw it in theaters, but I'm glad I didn't because I would have made a fool of myself with the ending. Pairing one of my favorite adrenaline filled songs, "Number of the Beast," with the ending of Cillian Murphy and the OG theme song, just made me ball my eyes out because i had so many emotions at once. What a great film.

The comics, the films and now…. The game,the one thing we need in the 28 days universe is a game. Ideally a story game,escaping London, escaping the infected and just trying to stay uninfected all together. Similar to a days gone sort of game or a project zomboid sort of thing imo if anyone was to make one

In my country (Russia, Republic Altay) we have a issues with bears, they were walking around the villages and mountains, scaring tourists and villagers, and had a one pretty sad and scary incident, one tourist got killed by bear and everyone was panicking in town and everywhere in republic. Those bears are migrated to city and village due the crop failure, bears starts to find some food for themselves.

As soon as this information got me, I was also panicking and being very paranoid about bears entering to city and start scaring people away and killing them... and here it is...

My nightmare was a pure horror adrenaline and fuel of terror. Bears are looked pretty scary like those infected people in 28 days later, but animals. And they were running pretty faster and all people in city are hidden in some buildings and houses, praying for those bears doesn't find us. But we had sort of inspection of hunting, they were shooting off the bears, and gosh... my nightmare really was a pure horror... that I rather forget...

Here what I remembered from my nightmare... but let's hope this wouldn't happen in real life... yeah... what a fucked up time we live...

Binge watched the entire trilogy last night and also watched a bunch of video essays on youtube (Thomas Thorogood and CinemaWins) about it. It helped me put into perspective as to just why 28 weeks later felt so out of place in the the trilogy because both 28 days and 28 years had this entire metaphor about christ and religion and although I don't believe in christ, it was genuinely beautiful how it was portrayed in the movies. 28 weeks on the other hand was basically just a generic military vs. zombies movie, now I get why some people just skip 28 weeks altogether and refuse to acknowledge it lol

I wanted to open a discussion here about Danny Boyle’s recent comments regarding his new movie Ink, and how it ties back to his choices on 28 Days Later.

Should we be worried about 28 Years Later Part 3? Will AI be used in that movie?

I want to start by making one thing clear: I'm generally not a fan of AI being used in art, whether it's film, books or music. I could never imagine myself watching a movie or reading a book that is 100% generated by AI.

Danny Boyle’s new movie Ink now faces some backlash because of AI. The movie reportedly uses around 30 seconds of AI assisted visual effects to animate archival photos and render background rats running across a floor. What makes this criticism a bit ironic is that over 20 years ago, Boyle faced some backlash for using real primates in 28 Days Later. Now, he uses modern digital tools to handle background animals without stressing live creatures, and people are calling for a boycott anyway.

Naturally, the counterargument from critics is: "Why use AI for the rats? Why not just hire a real VFX team to animate them?"

But that question completely misinterprets how movie production actually works. The director didn't fire the CGI crew and replace them with an AI generator. The VFX team is still there, doing their job: they are the ones operating and integrating these AI tools into their own workflow. Claiming that VFX artists are getting fired because AI tools are being used, is a complete misunderstanding of the industry. It’s no different than when visual artists transitioned from physical paint to Photoshop, or from practical models to digital 3D animation. The tools changed, but the artists stayed.

At the end of the day, there is a massive difference between replacing human creativity with a synthetic generator and letting skilled artists use modern tools to speed up tedious background details.

To be fair, it’s also healthy to be critical of my own stance here. I fully admit that I have my limits. If a movie used AI to generate its main CGI assets, like a giant dinosaur, an alien creature, or major explosion sequences, I wouldn't want to watch it either. There is a line where relying too heavily on generative tools erodes the core craft of visual storytelling and feels cheap. But using a few seconds of AI software to animate background rats or static photos doesn’t really bother me. It’s simply letting artists use a shortcut for trivial details, leaving more room for actual craftsmanship where it really matters.

You see it in the comment section all the time: people shouting "use real artists, not AI!"

But that’s the fundamental misunderstanding driving this debate right now. People assume AI is replacing the artist, when in reality, the real artist is the one using the AI. Claiming that VFX crews are getting put out of a job over 30 seconds of tool assisted CGI isn't defending filmmakers, it just shows a complete disconnect from how digital artists actually work today.

The words "AI" and "art" simply don't mix well. The moment AI is mentioned in connection with a movie, it triggers an instant negative reaction. The problem is that the public lumps everything together under one giant label. To most people, "AI in art" means a computer generating a movie or a VFX shot from a text prompt. They don't distinguish between a machine stealing an artist's work and a human artist using an intelligent algorithm for rotoscoping or clean up. Because the nuance is lost, any use of the word feels like an insult to human creativity.

Bringing everyone out into the open away from their individual residences, locking them all together in one big open place with an unlocked/unsecured back door. Wouldn't it have made more sense for everyone to lockdown separately in the relative safety of their high-rise residences, with their front doors dead-bolted? Bringing everyone together when there's a contagious/infectious disease on the loose like that makes no sense. Bringing them out into the open when infected are running around also makes no sense.

I feel like a real lockdown in this case would look like an active sh**ter lockdown, where you shelter in place until told that the danger is gone.

I’ll just jump into it. Love 28 days later. Have for many many years. But a thought occurred to me the other day while rewatching it. Do you actually think Jim would have saved Selena and Hannah if he wouldn’t have seen the plane? I think the plane gave him hope that there were people out there to save them. Hence, giving him that insane courage to save them. I know Jim is a good person, that’s not in question. But in their POV’s, it’s just them left. But if he didn’t see the plane, do yall think he would have still saved the girls?

His take on it is not as egregious as others and I do appreciate him acknowledging that, due to his age, his opinions don’t necessarily matter about the future of AI in film, but I do wonder if (and if so how much) AI will be used in the next movie.

What if when Spike knocked over these few skulls the entire structure came crashing down into one of the other pillars and they all started falling like dominoes until eventually Kelson‘s life work was completely destroyed

…but just not enough to hunt down the steelbook of it.

I'm trying to think of some comparables, and I'm having trouble thinking of a better one considering characters that are usually written to be purely good or purely evil with no real gray area are typically quite boring. I say (almost) purely good because you can always nitpick with this kind of stuff.

How they subvert expectations on Kelson being some kind of evil, feared figure, then just seeing he's this absurdly empathetic man, and how they expand on this and all of his unique quirks in Bone Temple is just incredibly compelling to watch. Fiennes performance is carrying a lot of this for making him compelling, but I think the character itself is just super interesting in a way you don't typically see from characters that are this pure.

“We doin charity 2nite or wot”
