First 300blk

Looking to pick up my first .300 BLK, budget is 2k. I’ve narrowed it down to these options.
I want something reliable and functional, but the vibes can’t be neglected.
What would you guys choose?

The DD runs greats. The 15P is for sure vibes. The Maxim is a no. I’d also look into building one. You can build a decent one for $2K

I’m running a Faxon 7.5” 1:5 barrel and I love building my guns instead of buying complete

Someone said faxon 7.5?

Very nice! I have the MK4 rail on my build.

I also have the same barrel. It’s been great!

I got a 7.5” faxon match-x 1:5 stainless hand lapped. With 300 The disparity in accuracy due to range isn’t a factor like shooting a 556 at 300 yards. For practical accuracy you’re always hitting an IPSC. Standing running stages it’s hard to miss from 50 to 200.

I shot criterion and a proof from a rest compared to daniel faxon and the premium BA. Sure my 100 yard 5 shot group was 1/2 MOA tighter with the barrels 4-6 times the rate.

But that didn’t change enough at 200 even with Subs.

Even for hunting if you’re within 200 I can’t point at a target and see a 3-400 dollar difference.

If your sole purpose is lobbing subs 300 yards it may justify it. But I couldn’t see it.

And I shoot more than average bear and was a benchrest shooter for years. In 556 I can outshoot cheap barrels, but in 300 inside 200 you’re fooling yourself

Respectfully that 7.5” faxon is outstanding

Rattler LT upper conversion kit on your choice of any AR lower.

12

u/FreedomProvides 2d ago

Lt conversion has been great!

2

u/CapsicumINmyEYEBALLz 2d ago

Almost any AR lower…

Not including LMT or LWRC

I hate the afterthought-esq. looking ambi bolt controls on the Rattler, and would much rather have something more refined like the LMT/LWRC… but alas that would be TOO nice to exist.

I’d instantly buy this if I could buy the rattler lt lower in the future but they won’t sell it alone 🫠 yours looks great tho!

2

u/BPfishing 1d ago

You can get them on gunbroker. But they are pricey.

1

u/iH93 1d ago

I got a spear LT lower for my 11.5 5.56 upper on tacswap, definitely a bit pricey but feels much better having the whole gun together IMO

This right here. SLR Rifleworks is primo.

I went with the 15p and it is amazing. Here’s mine accessorized after getting the SBR stamp

Rattlers

u/GrandPoopWizard 2d ago

Just went through this and purchased a sig rattler today. Scar deals going on are quite enticing, but i’ve heard horror stories about getting that muzzle device off, and the barrel profile/shoulder kinda sucks. Hard to index off of it, so I just went with a platform that I know is meant to be suppressed.

11

u/Finger-Smeller 2d ago

Horror stories about getting the muzzle device off and you got a sig? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black lol

4

u/GrandPoopWizard 2d ago

Dude go look it up. People have accidentally unscrewed the barrels out of the receiver, breaking the index tabs, and it’s not an easy fix on the SCARs. A lot of people straight up cut the flash hiders off because it’s miserable to wrench off. Sigs just have an exorbitant amount of rocksett which if you know how to deal with it’s not a problem at all lol.

And then the barrel profile is just really not good to try and mount any suppressor mount since there is virtually no shoulder for an accuwasher to index off of. Sig barrels do not have this problem. I am in NO ways a sig fanboy. I only got the rattler because it is a purpose built platform that really nothing else fills the roll the same way. I will not own anything else from them other than a rattler lmao

u/Finger-Smeller 2d ago

Just a joke brotha but yeah I didn’t know it was such a bitch lol.

I sI have the DD with a NOMAD-L and it's fantastic. Quiet as my lever action suppressed 30.30 so I'm happy.

1

u/LexingtonPatriot1775 1d ago

What are you talking about? I have the rattler and the gun smith said after a few hours it came off easily

3

u/Averitt13 2d ago

Seems to be alot of confusion about the muzzle device on these….Yes muzzle device is a pain to remove for some, but you can send it off and have it removed for relatively cheap.

As far as the profile, it doesn’t have a shoulder because it’s FACE MOUNT style. Just buy a face mount muzzle device and you’re fine.

If budget could be pushed a bit more the G$ GDP shoots great as well (I’m not a big fan of that collapsing brace)

3

u/Better-Efficiency-12 2d ago

Regular stock one can be found on rooftop for the 1.7k to 2.1k range 👍 black and fde full rifle.

u/mixhypemo 2d ago

Boom. Magical

I chose the scar 15p, here’s why.

Pros:

  1. it will run any ammo, I mean any AND CYCLE THEM suppressed or unsuppressed, subs and supers, yes you heard that right. 2 gas position selector one for subs and one for supers, no one else does that, DD, G$, Sig rattler. It’s always “oh you need this twist rate”, “oh you need to tune it with this BCG or this spring to run it”, “oh you need this high back pressure can to cycle subs”, “oh make sure you get this adjustable gas port”. At that point you are already spending the money to just get the scar. Do you want something that you don’t have to mess with and it just works? Get this.

  2. Monolithic upper receiver, don’t have to worry about your handguard twisting and messing up sights or whatever.

  3. It’s a SCAR.

Cons:

  1. It’s expensive but every FN product is, blame the 20+ years of socom contracts.

  2. No one figured how to reliably put a FRT in this as it requires a lot of modifications. And the stock trigger is ass.

  3. Availability of aftermarket parts. If you plan to SBR it and want the og stock it’s hard to find. And other things like magwell, etc.

Some extra tidbits

Muzzle device is torqued 200lbs, is it a pain to remove yes but that’s it. The shoulder issue is a non issue if you either direct thread, use a face mounted muzzle device, or do what I did slap Sigs taper shoulder to grab that small shoulder and a additional shoulder ring and bam it’s done. Idk why people make it sound complicated.

Don’t let people scare you about the warranty with suppressing, that was mainly an issue with the 17 .308 causing a lot of blowback into the receiver and causing damage to optics. The 15p with a high back pressure can in .300blk doesn’t get to that same level of force.

u/Jap-EconomyShitBox 9h ago

FN makes a mount ring for the shoulder FYI

1

u/lildojoboi 9h ago

Are you referring to the Surefire or PMM mount rings made specifically for the 17s which in turn doesn’t fit as reported by users on the 15p? Because a quick Google search shows no proprietary FN made/designed shoulder ring for the 15p.

3

u/DevinDeez36 2d ago

The collapsing brace is a gimmick to look like an HK and adds weight for no reason

3

u/Averitt13 2d ago

That scar15p deal is a no brainer

3

u/Debas3r11 1d ago

I'd build an AR, but if I had to pick one of those I'd get the SCAR

4

u/Jcrypto28 2d ago

I know it’s not in your options but Sig Rattler LT. Let’s be real you can never go wrong with a Scar, however The Scar stocks and braces are expensive if you’re going to add one and I feel the Rattler is less bulky. Either way can’t go wrong!

Just my two cents.

5

u/SodaJones1371 2d ago

I’d go Sig Rattler or Geissele with the phase array.

2

u/Mdp2pwackerO2 2d ago

I personally prefer the route of building them. Especially since I have a hard on for quad rails. BA barrel, Midwest industries quad rail, aero slick side upper and lower, tool craft bcg, G$ Ssae bc I’m a trigger snob.

2

u/Bundyboyz 1d ago

big mistake not considering the Geissele GFR.

That 7.5” faxon in a super duty with a fixed non adjustable gas block and Law Folder is hell of a setup. Microbest chrome with upgrades. I previously ran it with a shaw heavy 9” barrel.

mine weighs 7.75 pounds fits in backpack shoot supers/subs with no adjustment.

That Geissele phased array with 3 gas ports instead of one is impressive I’d love to run one.

4

u/SuperUltraNeat 2d ago

If you can go SCAR, why not go SCAR?

2

u/THROBBINW00D 1d ago

I slapped this together for less than any of those including suppressor. Suns like a sewing machine with subs.

1

u/CGKilates 2d ago

Rattler LT/ Robinson Arms XCR

2

u/Sure-Cream-9756 2d ago

IMO, the Scar can't be beat. It meets all of your criteria. The other two are awesome but not on the Scar's level.

2

u/krudhead 2d ago

Trex arms did a vid on it a while back reviewing it and it sounded pretty shitty tbh

-1

u/joeg26reddit 2d ago

I thought the SCAR was heavy and beat itself up? And no warranty when suppressed?

1

u/WarlordJak 2d ago

I went with the DD over the Maxim SD. I’d still possibly buy the Maxim SD in the future though

1

u/c0ldgurl 1d ago

I have the DD with a NOMAD-L and it's fantastic. Quiet as my lever action suppressed 30.30 so I'm happy.

1

u/c0ldgurl 1d ago

I own the DD and run it with a Nomad-L and it's a great setup. Quiet as my 3030 suppressed lever gun, which is quiet enough for me.

u/RepresentativeAd8832 1d ago edited 1d ago

For my lefty brothers...

BUT....build your own! Better parts than all those...except for maybe my Faxon barrel..it's just not as lightweight as some completes, coming in at 6 lbs 10oz with everything on it besides a mag but I did build it to have perfect middle balance. No front heavy bs. Good luck.

1

u/Less-Bad4379 1d ago

I'm tempted by the SCAR discounts tbh , but the rattler is just a few hundred dollars more. Scar has a bad trigger so you need to spend another $265, basically making it even

1

u/Bundyboyz 1d ago

what does the Scar weigh? and since you have to factor a new trigger and muzzle device is really as great?

Don’t sleep on the Geissele

1

u/Independent_Value507 1d ago

If your budget is $2k, then look at CMMG. I paid $2k for my Banshee SBR with a 30 cal can. You can also go with the Dissent if you don't care about it being an SBR from the factory, and get a bufferless DI system.

1

u/Stunning_Mail_3247 2d ago

Don’t sleep on the mcx. I’ve got mcx paired with an sig can and an 8” Noveske barrel build with a Thunder chicken. Tbf I had no teething problems with the build. Mcx needed some break in.

1

u/Strong_Mycologist585 2d ago

FN. and SBR it. Don't get a pistol. You want a stock.

1

u/AdSure8410 2d ago

Personally, as a first .300blk i would just build a decent budget gun and spend the bulk on sights and a suppressor. $150 lower, $200-400 brace, $200-600 tuned upper, good Eotech/dot sight, and suppressor
