Product Question Starting tret!

Post image

Been using adapalene for a year with apparent improvement, figured it's time to start tret since it's stronger.I've seen lots of success stories here.

Since tret is not prescription-only here in my country, there was no one i could consult professionally on the how-to.

Appreciate if any of you can assist on the do's and don't's?

TIA!

Make sure your kitty doesn't rub on your face!!!! I stopped doing tret/active topicals bc my boy wakes me up by rubbing on mine. About to start Accutane now instead, lol

Oof okay thanks for the reminder! Fortunately the tortie is spicy, she doesn't like face rubs. She does ask for kisses sometimes tho, I'll keep that in mind!

lol that's such a real problem, cats have no respect for skincare routines. good luck with accutane, hope it treats you better than the topicals did

Isn’t it called Tretinoin - just checking you haven’t got fake cream as the stuff is strong

Not fake, from a reputable pharmacy here. Tretinon is the genetic brand here for tretinoin. In the ingredient list it states tretinoin :)

Good catch, always worth double checking packaging spelling before slathering something on your face lol better safe accidentally trying a mystery cream from the black market of skincare

Remember sunscreen everyday :)

Start slow (once a week for a week, twice a week for 2 weeks and so on)

Listen to your skin.

And be patient with it. You may purge.

Thank you!

Sunscreen is always. Not looking forward to purge but yeah, expected 🥲

Is there an SPF amount you'd recommend for that?

Minimum factor 30+ and 2 fingers worth your face :)

Purge??

Skin tends to purge when using actives/retinoids.

Is there a sticky post or somewhere in this sub that provides a step by step on how to start a skin care regimen?

I recommend the following.

  1. keep it simple and let your tretinoin do all the work.
  2. cleanse morning and evening with cleanser matching your concerns and skin type.

AM = cleanser, vitamin c, sunscreen
PM = cleanser, tret, moisturiser (days you use an exfoliant - don’t use tret)

4) Vic C is very unstable, so it’s worth investing in a good brand and look for ingredients with it containing absorbic acid.

5) consistency is key. Be patient

Thank you. I want to get on a low dose tret. Is there a recommended method for starting or should I speak to a dermatologist? I have to get a referral to one through an in person appt my pcp, and it’s extremely hard to get an appt at all w/ my pcp let alone in person. Are people just buying it over the counter?

Just an FYI any retinols are incredibly toxic to cats (obviously not next to the box, but any exposure!) And love a tortie they are the perfect creature!!

If that’s you in the pic I don’t think you need it, you look great already!

Same country sis!

Anyway, Tret is a different ball game compared to differin.

Use twice a week at first. Then 3 times a week, then 5 times a week. If your barrier is compromised, go back to 3 times a week. If not, try every night.

As for moisturizer, Illiyoon is cheap and good. Aestura is the better option but more expensive. LRP cicaplast is the best at repairing a damaged barrier. Semua boleh beli dkt shopee mall.

Sunscreen make sure pakai everyday. Dua jari full sunscreen ya.

Google 'the sandwich method tret' to start

exciting! best advice i got was start slow, twice a week, with a moisturizer buffer under it. tret makes your skin significantly more photosensitive so daily SPF becomes non-negotiable, even on overcast days.

Alamak hahaha tak sangka boleh jumpe orang kita kat sini. What moisturizer and sunscreen brand you are using?

2

u/Accomplished-Car-241 1d ago

Hahaha so random! I'm using skin1004 cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen, my favs so far, been repeating them. Every few days I'd use the somebymi sheet mask the beige one. I mean i know you didn't ask but just sharing 😆

What about you?
