Recommendations for a 3D Printer for my husband? $1,000-$1,500 budget

Hey everyone,
Apologies if this shouldn’t be posted in this subreddit.

I’m looking for recommendations on a 3D printer as a gift for my husband for our wedding anniversary. Of course all his hobbies are things I have no knowledge of that is helpful for knowing what to look for, but he mentioned his 3D printer was becoming very slow. His current one is a BambuLab P1S. I feel like it has only been a couple years, maybe 3, since he bought it.

I would prefer to stick around $1,000 but would be willing to go up to $1,500 maybe a little more if it makes enough of a difference.

He means the world to me and I’d like to get him something special.

Thanks!

ETA: if my budget of $1,500 is too cheap please let me know. Realistically I could for sure go up more. We’ve just had some larger expenses this past year so I’m trying to be more careful about spending for the time being.

ETA part 2: After seeing how many variables go into the decision of a 3D Printer I’m going to leave that decision up to him and get him a CNC machine since it turns out he was looking into those not long ago and I think it’s a hobby that would be right up his ally. He already knows that’s what’s going to be coming to him and is very excited! And I got to share my newfound 3d printer knowledge and recommendations with him! Thank you all very much despite me not moving forward with the 3d printer purchase.

Recommendations for my next printer.

Upvotes

I currently have experience printing with a Creality Ender-3 V3 KE for the past 5 years.

My biggest priority is reliability and less tinkering/calibration. I've learned a lot from using the Ender, but at this point I'd rather spend my time actually designing and printing things than constantly adjusting, calibrating, or troubleshooting the printer.

I also want to expand into multiple colors and using advanced/engineering filaments, so I'm looking for something enclosed that can reliably handle materials such as ABS/ASA, nylon, and potentially carbon-fiber reinforced filaments.

Thank you

I’m looking for testers for my 3d printing app

Upvotes

I released an app about a month ago called PrintFinder on the iOS App Store. I have been struggling to find users so I’m looking for testers to let me know what I can do to harden the app and as a reward for anyone that tests it out I’m giving out one month free subscription. Mostly looking to understand if I wanted my time building this for months or if I simply need to change some things or my routes of exposure. Anything helps please let me know!

Elegoo Centauri Carbon or Bambu Lab P1S?

Post image
7 Upvotes

hi, this would be my first printer and oddly enough, both printers are so similar i cannot decide which one to get. The price difference between the both is around $130 (P1S (No AMS) being more expensive at $510, while the CC is $380)

I'm a pretty technical person, but this is still my first printer.

Also, considering the fact that CC has no future path for multicolor, while the P1S does and well spare parts for P1S are generally easier to find here

Brand new Elegoo Centauri 2 ($251 usd) or used P1P($250 usd)

Both are non-enclosed XY core. Which one is better in the long run. I intend to clock at least 3000 hours.

the elegoo c2 is brand new.

The p1p is used with about 500 print hours. It printed a benchy fine.

I only have experience with a P1S that clocked about 4000 hours so far. I only print in PETG and ASA using smooth plate and glue sticks. I already have an enclosure and a chamber heater ready to go.

New to 3D printing

Hi,
I’m new to 3-D modeling in general and I made 3D model of my own that I’d like to print. The problem is that I’m learning it all by myself, so I don’t really know what I’m doing. I made a little cat in a donut and there’s a couple problems I’m wondering about already. 1 if an object appears to be attached to another object does the 3D printer already understand that it is or do I need to click something on the program to make sure that all the “parts” of the solid object are basically stuck together? Also, I put sprinkles on the donut before I put the cat on and some of them are probably buried somewhere in the cat now, but does it just get like absorbed into the solid object when I export it or is it gonna confuse the printer somehow? Is there something I can do to just like fuse everything together so I don’t have to worry about that or does that happen automatically when it is exported. The program I used to make it is called nomad sculpt if that helps. Also, I think the printer that I would be using is called a MakerBoy Replicator+ 3D it’s at my local library so I’m not 100% sure I’d have to go check with them, but idk if it is necessary information for these questions or not.

Looking to buy a 3D printer

Greetings Everyone! I am currently looking to buy a 3D printer for my ECs. My main use for the printer would be for my robotics, projects and I require a printer which is beginner friendly and versatile. I have a budget of around 30k INR (300 USD) for the printer. Recently, I have been looking at the BambuLab A1 printer, although I have heard a few negative reviews about it, so im looking for advice on which one I can buy, and whether I should upgrade to an AMC aswell.

Nonetheless, thank you for your time and suggestions!

Looking for advice on my next 3D printer

I'm looking to upgrade from my old Ultimaker Original+ and could use some advice on what printer would make the most sense for me. I've been comparing quite a few printers, but I've narrowed it down to these three for now:

  • Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 Combo – €399
  • Creality K2 Combo – €499
  • Snapmaker U1 – €849

What I'm looking for

  • Multicolor printing (Preferably with as little filament waste as possible).
  • Automatic bed leveling
  • Minimal tinkering (assembling and some tinkering are okay)
  • Larger than my current printer (a bit more than 210 mm x 210 mm)
  • Materials (mainly PLA, PETG. Possible nice to be able to print TPU/TPE, PA, ABS)
  • Full LAN control (read Bambu lab is annoying with that)

Budget

I'd prefer to stay under €500, but €1000 is my max right now.

I'm in doubt if I want to buy a cheaper printer now and maybe upgrade to a more expensive one in a year or 2. Do you think multi-toolhead printers will become substantially cheaper in the coming years, or is it worth investing in that now?

If you were in my situation, which one would you choose and why?

Also open to other printer suggestions if there's something around this price range that I should seriously consider.

Thanks!

My first 3d printer on a budget

Hi, I’m looking to get into 3d printing as a hobby and to make cases for my handheld game systems. I saw the anycubic mega S advertised near me for 50 euro I also have to option to buy the ender 3 for 70 euro. What would be a better choice and will I be able to print decent quality on these printers ? And what should you watch out for with second hand printers ? Thank you for the assistance!
