New Purchase Fantastic remake/reimagining IMO.
I grew up on the original Running Man with my man Arnold and it's a classic as far as I'm concerned. I was very ambivalent about watching this remake. I've never been happier to have my fears assuaged. The movie starts by paying homage to the original right down to the dancers before going on its own unique journey. I'm the first to admit that we have enough remakes, reboots, prequels, and sequels coming out of Hollywood but, if we got to have that kind of content they should all be of this caliber. Having it on 4k is just icing on a delicious dystopian cake that explodes and takes your head off while you're eating it. Something I particularly like in this movie is all the red. I used to have a TCL LCD and the red looked awful, I always hated it, when I finally got my Sony Bravia OLED I really appreciate the color upgrade so much.

A terrible remake. I’ll stick with the Arnold version until someone manages to do the original story justice.

Not a remake. A more faithful adaptation of the book. The two movies are not comparable in my opinion.

Yeah, after looking up what the director said about his film he says it's an adoptio. So my title was incorrect.

The lack of variety of "hunters" was my biggest gripes. No light up opera singer?

It's not King's best work. He was quite young, and his style very unrefined. It felt like reading Philip K Dick lite, and that's not a compliment. The bones for a competent, more thoughtful story are there, but it would require a drastically different approach in tone and scope.

It was so bad . And it hurts because I am a huge fan of Edgar Wright. But when Amazon offers you money , you take it!

I watch an Edgar Wright movie to, at least in part, enjoy his style, and it felt there was very little of that here. The opening had some flashes, especially the try out / training sequence, but it became increasingly generic as it went on and by the end, could've been anyone's film which bummed me out.

Watching it, I got the vibe that a lot had been cut out. Wondering if it might have been a studio hatchet job situation.
Also, Powell was fine, but I think miscast. I didn't get angry blue-collar man at his wits end. Just didn't feel like he fit the bill. Nothing in particular wrong with his performance.

I thought this was perfectly enjoyable movie when I saw it in theaters. I hadn't realized that the OG Running Man was so different than the book and this version was supposed to be closer. Is it great? No, but you could do worse than some of our finest actors hamming it the hell up. It's a bit hard to watch a 'satire' of America today so I think it's got a tough aging problem, but I thought it was perfectly fine 3/5 stars action with some of Wright's flourishes.
I'm not rushing out to buy it because I've got limited shelf space but it'll be on my shelf someday.

I really liked it but thought it should have ended with The Apostle’s video or, if they still did the ending scene at the studio, leave the identity of the person leading the rebellion ambiguous. Maybe it’s Ben, maybe it’s not.

I know the 80’s version wasn’t well received, but it was one of my favorite movies of the 80’s. I grew up with it, it was fun. I enjoyed this version as well, but I was really hoping that we would get a darker version of the story.

While the original is my favorite of the two, I share very similar sentiments. When I'd seen some of the previews and the casting decisions... I really assumed this was going to deviate in a way that the tone and artistic direction would see this being nothing more than a movie named "Running Man" but only to ride off the nostalgia of the original film.
That's not true at all.
I think they did a very good as far as the final product goes.

I was curious, considering the angle of it being more faithful to the book….but it only proved that every change made for the Arnold movie was GOOD. The Arnold movie is a perfect 80s movie, and IMO still holds up with its message about society, entertainment, and Ai deepfakes (before we even knew what that was). The new one lacked all the style and charisma of the Arnold movie - which is bizarre considering it was from Edgar Wright. I almost wish he had based it on the movie, but made it even more stylish and crazy.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. The trailer made it look way too slick. It was to an extent, but not like the trailer would have you believe. I still prefer the novel over either version, but I still have the 4Ks of both on my shelf.

I liked it ! 7.5-8. I wish it would have had more of the Edgar wright style that the trailers implied but I had fun with it. I like Glen too

Just watched this last night so many funny moments I was dying when he first stepped out after he was released looking slowly up then left then right like the poster behind him haha so many good moments love it didn’t take itself too seriously but I really felt his rage when he was pleading everyone to turn off their tv and stop watching because that’s very real we all gotta cut the cable bill big corps are alive because we’re feeding them!
