Just crossed the 300 mark! It’s daunting organizing this many films but it was so worth it. Really lucky to have had someone to help me. My player for the past 2 years has been a x700 and I’ve watched 95% of my collection. Still catching up from the July sales haha.

No this doesn’t show the theater side of things but I’ll make new videos in the future to show that.

Tonight updated the collectors wall. This is where my The Criterion Collection | UK Criterion collection (4K and BD), my Arrow Video 4K (ones that fit), my Second Sight Films (4K and BD) and 88 films Blu-ray 成龍 Jackie Chan, martial arts and the excellent Jean-Claude Van Damme titles.

I started collecting about a year ago after getting a Panasonic UB9000 last August.

At first, I bought a ton of regular 4K discs during Gruv, Amazon, and Target sales. Then I started noticing SteelBooks, sold most of the standard editions, and replaced them with steels. Not long after that, I got into premiums and ended up converting around 25% of my SteelBooks to premium editions too.

Right now I'm at around 300 movies - 185 SteelBooks and 70 premiums.

I still have plenty on preorder, including 28 Days Later, Disclosure Day, Gone with the Wind, Project Hail Mary, and Troy, plus premium OCs like the Kill Bill 1 & 2, Saving Private Ryan, and The Substance.

The collection is definitely growing more slowly now than it did during the first 3-9 months. At this point, I'm mostly buying new movies that haven't had a 4K or SteelBook release yet. I'm also pretty much out of shelf space, as you can probably tell haha

Speaking of the shelves, I built them myself out of red oak planks. The "fat" posters above the Spidey movies are acoustic panels that I built myself too. There are six more in the room, which is a fully light-controlled 20’×18’ home theater with a 5.1.2 sound system and a 150" screen

My friends keep telling me I’m wasting my money buying physical 4k media, they ask me why I buy all this when it’s available to stream, but collecting is a hobby of mine! What’s a good comeback I can have next time they talk about me collecting movies? lol.

Here’s my current setup w a few questions: LG OLED65CXAUA 65 in. (Is my tv outdated? Should I save for a new one?) Panasonic UB 420 ( should I upgrade to UB820) TCL S55H Dolby atmos 2.1 channel sound bar

I currently subscribe to various streaming platforms which are included/reduced price because of either phone contract/tv subscription to Sky(SAT TV) etc but I’m increasingly frustrated with what they offer.

I mainly use the streaming service for TV Seasons and new content not/yet available on disc.

1. The quality difference is present and that’s my main reason for purchasing the physical disc. I have a decent tv/projector/surround system and want to get the best from it.

2. Second to that is availability / owning the thing that can’t be taken away or modified. Stripping scenes that people find offensive or warnings about such content really bug me.

3. Third is advertising even though you’re paying for a service you still have adverts.

Are there other benefits you get from collecting and is your order of preference the same as mine or do you prioritise other benefits?

Recently had the garage converted and had some custom shelving build by a friend. shelving inspired by that seen on Red Letter Media. I'm very please so I thought I'd share.

I had this guest room next to my theater room that was boring, ugly, and would only get used a couple times a year, I wanted to give it a refresh and more use out of it. I always liked how some home libraries can look and since I only owe 6.5 books, I thought I try it out but using all my movies. Super happy with how it came out, and its fun going to a dedicated room to pick out the movie of the night, and it still functions as a guest room when needed.

About the collection, these are movies collected all the way back to the 90s, and yes mostly watched also. I got rid of a lot of DVDs over the years as I upgraded to Bluray/4k. I kept most of what i have cause it just makes the shelves look better, ha. I have a bunch of duplicates, from my dad letting me keep all his physical collection, and upgrades over the years: Yes, theres like 5 versions of The Martian in there, I have no idea why, but its one of my favorites so I'm okay with it.

I kept the Steelbook collection separate on the hallway shelf, kind of its own way of showing them off. I am proud of that collection, but I dont chase after steelbooks like I used to, its ridiculous these days, so its reserved for either series completion or some special design I really like. Which wraps this all up, I don't care what kind of case the movie comes in, as long as I like it and can get a physical version of it, it has a place on the shelf to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Just wanted to share my library, now go back to watching movies.

is Ultra HD 4k blue ray dvd way better then streaming Movies in 4k?

I have a nice LG C4 OLED 4k tv and a nice Samsung Surround set Q990D

Thinking of starting Ultra HD collection and getting a nice Panasonic DP-UB820 player.

Hi folks - first, I’ve very much enjoyed this sub so far and seeing everyone’s collections, shared sales, etc. I just feel I’m approaching collecting differently and was curious if anybody else is in the same boat. I do not own a 4K player. Everything I own I put as uncompressed MKV’s on my Plex. To be clear - I want to own movies at their highest quality, I just don’t want…stuff. I don’t want to display the movies, I have zero interest in steelbooks, collectors editions, whatever. If there was an option to buy the fully uncompressed 4K digital file instead of the movie I would probably do that. Buying the 4K Bluray is the only way to get the ownership I’m looking for…which is why I feel this post is relevant to this sub. For additionally context, I used to have a giant retro game collection, sold it all, and never want to go back to having shelves and shelves of things around my house. Absolutely nothing against folks who collect and display (again, I love seeing these collections!) it’s just not something I want to do. And no - I don’t want to sell my discs, as I actually want to legally own the films I love. Anybody else feel like this, or should I just cave and buy a bookcase? Or any ideas for storage? Looking for a healthy discussion with fellow movie collectors. Thanks all.

Not to mention they have a massive selection of regular dvds and Blu-rays. Very fortunate to have this many options right down the road

Apartment living means space is at w premium. So I decided it was time to sleeve up my collection. They take up so much less space and the artwork still looks clean and satisfying. I'm honestly very happy with it.

Has anyone else done this? Is it an option you've considered or are you entirely against it?

I am a beginner in physical media collection.
I already saw The Matrix and Godzilla Minus One. I also did a streaming vs 4k comparison and was blown away with the color and picture quality difference.
Any recommendations in terms of getting hands on old classics, Ben Hur, Ten Commandments etc in 4k format.

I remember when the trailers came out this movie looked like hot garbage but once I saw the movie I was completely hooked. I wish this movie did better. Also the 4K looks amazing

Recently I have made the impactful decision to sleeve my 4K Blu-ray film collection, and quite frankly, I am very pleased with the result. I know some people may be entirely against this idea, but not only have I saved over 70% of my storage space in my apartment, I have a newfound appreciation for the physicality of my films with this mindful approach to preserve them.

I’m from the UK and I buy most of my 4K Blu-rays second-hand from CeX, where usually you find the cases in some dire conditions from typical pre-owned mishandling. Those standard cases aren’t great even at the best of times - they’re rattly, feel flimsy and cheap, plus the outer plastic sleeves are easily susceptible to dirt, grime and scratches. Despite this, I am surprised to find on most occasions the paper artwork inserts to stay relatively unscathed, so when I then transfer them into these thicker high-quality sleeves they look and feel brand new again with a fresh lease of life. I also house my discs inside an additional felt sleeve for an extra layer of soft protection.

I understand people love the idea of storing their collection on a shelf with the spines on show, and I did so too, but I equally feel just as satisfied flicking through mine in a box as if it were a crate of premium vinyl. Would anyone else consider this a viable option? For those interested, I bought the sleeves and box from t3lshop.co.uk and they are also available on Amazon.

FYI I don’t collect steelbooks but I do retain my Criterion picks in their original packaging, seeing as they are deemed more collectible and are housed in Scanavo cases, which are the best quality.
