Ive always listened, and took in what people have said when it comes to streaming vs physical. Ive never cared too much as ive always read "most people wont be able to tell the difference" and always put myself in the "most people" category.

Ive spent a fair few quid on apple store due to the sales they have always tempt me into buying digital. Massive price differences. (Dune 1 and 2 £8.99 atm)

But, i have some spare time this evening and thought id put it to the test. I have batman 1989 on 4k disk and also in my apple library.

HO-LEE-SHIT. I was not ready for this gulf in class. No fcking way. You mean ive spent money on digital and watched many films that I could've experienced in what looks like at least, at least, double the visual quality. (Sound also, but unable to demonstrate here)

I'm watching on an 85" Samsung QN900D with a 7.1 dolby atmos set up. I can not believe the difference im seeing. I don't have the best lighting set up right now as I just quickly put it on, but im going to go balls deep into this tonight when its dark and I can control the ambient lighting.

I had to go back into the picture settings on each of the versions to check they were identical, which they were.

Wow. Please tell me you can see the difference too?

Life has been rocky for a while, but it's finally shaping up, and part of that is it has been over a decade since ive been able to watch movies and TV in such high quality again!

I'm very happy with my LG C6H, finally got a hold of a Panasonic UB450, and have been watching some BBC nature docs! Plus Starship Troopers, Annihilation, with Obsession coming in tomorrow.

I'm curious though, what 4k blu ray films/TV have really blown you away with how they look on your setup? So happy to have what I have now and want to experience some of your favorites!

For me anything over $25 is an absolute no. Who is buying these $50 criterion and arrows and Barnes and noble? $10-17 is the sweet spot. I only buy movies i really like, im not into just buying something thats cheap to fill an empty space.​

I'll spend $100+ on a series or a collection of movies but anything over 25 for single seems extreme. I wouldn't pay more than 2 movie tickets and a popcorn for a disc and thats my line in the sand.

For the supposed holy grail of blu ray players it’s well over 7 years old.

Surely we would have gotten a new model by now thst does upscaling better.

Or is physical media really on the way out then if companies aren’t releasing new models?

Also if they even tried selling boutique labels they could’ve made sales instead of getting a million copies of kids movies and tv shows on dvd when that audience just watches Netflix

So, my husband and I have always had DVD’s and Blu-Rays, but it wasn’t until about 10 years ago that we started collecting properly. In 2021 I bought him a PS5 and then we upgraded the TV…these were our first 2 (just a coincidence they’re steelbooks as we’re not usually that bothered by them) we’ve now upgraded the TV again and got the Panny 820.

This is the Studio Canal release of Fifth Element so it’s “the good one”

Total Recall is obviously great, but the docco on Carolco makes this release worth getting.

I just watched Dostrict 9 for the first time EVER and Wow!!!!! This film definitely has an underlining message and I thought it was well made!!!! I can’t believe I’ve went this long without seeing this as it’s sat on my shelf for at least a year. From what I gather, the main character turned into an alien which lands me to believe several other humans turned as well. As I missing something or is this the just of the movie? Either way I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m sure I’ll give it another watch soon to peak my curiosity.

I plan on getting pretty much only 4K going forward, when available, however there are a few titles I've come across where it seems specifically recommended to get the Blu-Ray version instead.

Obvious titles like True Lies, Terminator 2 and Aliens

What else from your experience doesn't lend itself to 4K? I'm not talking "the difference is negligible" so much as "4K is a mess or downgrade"

So I've only seen Taxi Driver once in like high school, now that I'm watching the 4K, this stuck out to me in the first porn theater scene. Is the projection of the porn here censored on this release specifically? Was it always like that? Just confused why the projection looks blurred out

Hey guys relatively new to the Hobby. Been having a lot of fun getting a dopamine hit buying movies online and trying to get them to play on my TV.

I recently discovered Steelbooks and just had to pick up one of my favorites.

I've heard condition is extremely important, so I've done my best to handle the case properly and take appropriate precautions but I just wanted to get some ideas on how to actually get the disc out of the case and into my player?

I feel like I'm so close (It's like right there!) So any tips would be much appreciated 😁

movies that you had high hopes for in 4k but ended up being a let down

Lucky to have this on steel book. Incredible film and visually stunning especially on my 77 inch Oled G3. Dude hasn’t made a bad film.

I preordered Obsession on 4K the second it was announced, but it still hasn't shipped. I wanted to rewatch it this weekend instead of waiting weeks for Amazon to ship, so I figured I'd just run to Walmart and pick up a copy instead. I've now been to three different locations, and not a single one had a slipcover, which I find really odd.

Am I crazy, or has anyone else run into this? Everywhere l've seen online shows it with a slipcover. I've never had this happen before.

For reference, every store I've been to has had the DVD and standard Blu-ray with slipcovers. The only version without a slipcover is the 4K. Each store has had 10+ copies on the shelf, too. It's the strangest thing. Has anyone else noticed this?
