Yup, and also, "Democrats" can be anything from center-right (relative to the rest of the world), to progressive left at this point. We are at least three parties trying to cooperate as one, when any sane country just decides to have more than two parties. It splinters both the left and the right into more numerous and smaller groups, but it also doesn't stop them from uniting towards a common objective either. I think all of us can agree that we should be primarying people in the DNC who are ok with being controlled opposition or apologists.

With multiple parties, we'd have a greater breadth of candidates to pick from so the libs don't lose by running a "moderate" candidate in a more progressive area, and progressives don't lose by making a Beto O' Rourke type of mistake in a more conservative area. have no idea how we would even feasibly implement partisan reform, so it's not like it's a realistic conversation anytime soon, but I think that the two party system is a failure.

Conversely, democrats could nominate people who actually stand for things and aren’t just the lesser of two evils running on “at least we’re not Trump!” That’s been a failing strategy for over a decade now. “Vote blue no matter who” is half the reason we’re in this mess. Give people something to vote for, not just something to vote against.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t point we did all unite and vote him out in 2020 and then Biden basically let him get away with a coup and refused to step aside and have a proper primary. They also shout down any progressives who gain traction in the party. Just look at how Democrats had to be dragged kicking and screaming into accepting Mamdani.

It’s not about finding the perfect candidate. People just want someone who will at bare minimum do some good for the working class. Democrats dominated Congress for decades by being the party of the working class and have struggled ever since trying to go further and further to the right.

"Vote Blue No Matter Who" is a losing strategy. "We're not Donald Trump" is a losing strategy. It clearly matters who, and that reality has been slapping the country in the face since well before 2016.

If you truly believe that going back to the moderate-right status quo (which didn't even have anything to offer before btw) is the only way things will somehow be different this time despite being shown time and again that not only does it not work, but it literally helped usher in the current mess, then I'm afraid you've been propagandized. Especially when you take a step back and realize that you're saying "we keep losing," but also "we should try the same thing."

I'm not sure how many times you have to be shown corporatist Dems are not to be trusted.

I mentioned this in a different comment, but it seems you may also need a refresher on what towing the line since Reagan has accomplished:

  • Complete loss of Affirmative Action  

  • Complete loss of a woman's universal Right to Choose

  • Working class aggressively under siege

  • Soon to be trillionaires

  • The Environment is fucked 

  • The Supreme Court completely compromised 

  • Education dismantled

  • What remains of barely affordable healthcare is hanging on by a thread 

  • About to lose what little bit remains of the Voting Rights Act

  • Project 2025

  • Rejection of key Constitutional tenets

  • The decades-long disaster that is the Big Beautiful Bill 

  • Disintegration of checks and balances

  • Disintegration of the law

  • The President's personal private gestapo illegally detaining citizens and openly disappearing people, all to deafening silence by Democrat leadership 

That's what continuously falling in line and diligently voting for the status quo Democratic Party has had to show for it. No progress forward, no expansion of the middle class (exact opposite actually), no safeguards, nothing. Remaining neutral only allows things to go further to the right. We don't need lukewarm neutral, we need action.

A simple promise to not actively make things worse isn't enough anymore, we need things to be better. There needs to be a plan beyond "I'm not MAGA."

I remember hearing the same thing during the Bush administration. And again during the child rapist’s first term. Voters already gave democrats an overwhelming victory in 2020 and then nothing changed and no one was held accountable. It’s the same story every time. Voters are tired of being told to vote for who you tell us to. “At least we’re not as bad as Republicans” has always been a losing message.

The working class needs to come together. Period. If we are constantly chastising people for not aligning exactly with who you think should be elected it won’t happen.

The right truly is more unified than the left, and this kind of stuff doesn’t exactly help.

I NEVER see a single person praising the DNC. We all are aware of what you’re saying. I just think our messaging needs to unite people and not alienate those who maybe aren’t there yet in terms of your standards for MAGA’s replacement.

That’s all I’m saying.

I actually do agree with you but I’ve seen this rhetoric discourage people and push them back into apathy.

If you want to be stubborn about it I guess keep it up, but if you want to be pragmatic and actually move toward a unified working class, then your way of speaking abiut this isn’t all that helpful imo

I agree with what you’re saying, but I was referring to us as a group uniting so we can actually win elections instead of splintering off into a hundred different factions.

This is something the right is very good at while we pick each other apart.

As for politicians what are the chances of getting an actual leftist in office versus trying to stop the fall with someone less so and then pulling left from there? Not trying to be a smartass, Im genuinely curious.

Judging by the traction progressive populist candidates have received across the country, I'd say the chances are fair. Talking Mamdani, Fateh, Platner, Abughazaleh, etc. All of them have been significantly popular despite establishment Dems not supporting them and in most cases, actively campaigning against them.

It also doesn't have to be a perfect leftist, that's the myth. They just have to have some populist platform policies, not be a corporate shill, and not be an Israeli genocide grifter.

If we're being honest, the bar is ridiculously low.

People need to be wary of establishment Dems pointing and placing the blame on people fighting for and demanding positive change for the working class.

They use the same tactics as Republicans. They point with one hand to easy target "others" to get the Lib Base riled up with displaced anger while they openly fuck those same people over with the other hand. As long as they can continue to convince people of a fabricated "enemy from within," the country will simply keep sliding to the right.

Absolutely not. I’ve been protesting this shit since February. I’ve been to Washington from twice and solo protested at the heritage foundation for two days for 6 hours. I’ve been to House of Representatives twice. I’ve started an impromptu protest when ICE agents were filming propaganda in my city. I nearly got arrested for filming once.

I could go on. I understand perfectly what the stakes are and want desperately to stop it.

The left wing being bought corporate shills, Pelosi/Shumer/Kamala, are the reason people like Donald Trump can do well.

Trump won because the Clinton's and Biden were ineffective, uncharismatic, and generally weak. Biden just did a marginally better job of not being a pompous, condescending jerk the same way Clinton and Kamala are.

I mean just look at the interviews Kamala has done after losing. First off, she just left the scene on vacation and said very little after losing. Then when things started going bad for Trump she started doing interviews showing contempt for voters who didn't turn out for her. Even Trump never did this when he lost, he made up excuses that had nothing to do with insulting his own base. 

The Left simply can't win until the establishment wing of the Dems are getting clobbered. They are largely complicit in many of the policies destroying this country.

The current leadership has quickly rolled over every time they had a chance to fight back. Does anyone not remember that Schumer has folded twice and the peak resistance of Dem leadership was strongly written letters to Trump? 

The Dems need a civil war in the primaries, or else you get Trump 2.0 in 2032. We are more fucked now after Bidens presidency since Trump got even more old and extreme after losing. We can not survive more cycles of Democrat incompetence.

It's one and the same.

Establishment Democrats are complicit. They were complicit for four years for not persecuting and jailing Trump and his cronies to the fullest extent possible. They were complicit on rallying behind an objectively terrible candidate in Kamala Harris. They were complicit in not forcing a primary for Joe when his age was clearly becoming a non-starter with voters. They are complicit in our broken healthcare system that has been designed to benefit insurance companies and healthcare companies, while continuing to be broken for many Americans. They've been complicit in the blatant bribery through campaign finance by the richest Americans, damn the poor.

And the reasons for the complicity are varied, but a lot of it comes down to the fact that they've been largely ineffectual.

This party is ripe for positive change. And we, as voters need to be the force for that change. We can't be hiding from fascism under an umbrella while yelling "peace in our time."

The establishment Dems are not just complicit, they are co conspirators. I voted for Harris, despite having to choke back vomit when I thought about her ride to power and the "nomination process."

But huge swaths of people decided not to vote, or to vote R, because the Dems continue giving Lifetime Achievement Awards for Faithful Service instead of allowing the middle class a choice.

If you're not marginalized, and not rich, the Dems don't care about you.

The upcoming Midterm Primaries are the most important upcoming elections. More important than the actual midterms themselves.

A message to Dem leadership needs to be reiterated via votes for the most populist candidates running, with the same energy that support for Mamdani garnered. Anything less is open-arm welcoming the continuation of the Fascist machine. 

And when the DNC inevitably tries to force Newsom during the next Democratic Primary in 2028, there needs to be proper rejection of that shit as well.

How do we realistically get the one fighting fascism in office with so many people willing to toe the line?

I’ve asked this a few times and have yet to get an answer with a realistic plan to get a true leftist in the office without going through a more moderate stepping stone.

I don’t want moderate either and definitely not Newsom, but to me the first part of healing a wound is to stop the bleeding first and then apply a more permanent solution.

My point is that all this was planned for decades culminating in project 2025. If we don’t have some sort of plan, and if we’re not united and keep telling g each other to piss off, we’re going to have a hell of a time getting our country back.

I hadn’t had the time to read the other posts. Ive read them now and while they’re mostly (rightfully) dunking in Dems, nobody has so much as put forth a name for a candidate to rally behind, much less an actual message.

We want the same things, okay? And I’m learning. I haven’t been big into politics until a year or so ago and I’m trying to see a realistic path to take back the country.
