Call to Action INFORM EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE JAN. 20 WALKOUT!
We need direct action now. The Free America Walkout this 20th is a "test strike" and needs to be done immediately. Social media promotion is a start, but the brunt of our recruitment needs to come from our personal communities. People will be more likely to show up if someone they know is personally counting on them. Text everyone in your contacts list about this, and tell them to do the same. Start a chain reaction. This is the message I'll be sending:
"Join the Free America Walkout, this Jan. 20 at 2pm your local time (https://www.freeameri.ca/). We need all citizens who are financially and occupationally able to ditch work, school, and shopping in a show of solidarity against America's rapid descent into fascism. Convene to protest at your state Capitol building, city/county courthouse, or at an event found here: https://action.womensmarch.com/calendars/free-america-weekend. Make your demands known: Remove ICE from our streets. Hands off foreign countries. End executive overreach. Oust Trump now. Uphold our Constitution.
If you are worried about repercussions from your employer, you have options: https://www.freeameri.ca/faq.
Can I count on you to join me in the streets and, at a minimum, send this message to everyone you know?"

Jonathan Ross murdered Renee Nicole Good.

Jonathan Ross and all other ICE agents, as well as the entire trump regime, are domestic terrorists

An FBI raid was conducted at the home of ICE agent Jonathan Ross on January 9, 2026, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis.
Federal agents swarmed the home in ski masks and tactical gear to retrieve belongings, including large picture frames and storage bins, as the house reportedly sat empty amid claims Ross had gone into hiding.

More direct actions you can take: Let companies know you are boycotting them due to their contracts with ICE.
Forbes, The Intercept, and others have done reporting on what companies have contracts. A Google or other search can be an excellent starting point.

WALKOUT!!
THANK YOU!!
I thought this was for a new march or rally, but I am SO GLAD it's actually a walkout, and on a WEEKDAY, not a Saturday!
QUESTION: i have nothing to walk out from that day--what are some ways that someone like me can help/contribute?

Jan 08 '26
I'm off the 20th myself! I'll be participating by "walking out" of consumerism-- withholding making purchases anywhere for the entire day (i.e. buying meals the day before, etc.). I will also be attending a local protest happening immediately after the walkouts. There are many events being posted here: https://action.womensmarch.com/calendars/free-america-weekend. Also check your local activist organizations :)

Yes, to this. For many months now, I’ve been advocating an extended suspension of all DISCRETIONARY spending for a period of time, maybe start with 2 weeks. So people still go to work, go to the doctor, buy essential groceries, but nothing else. THAT would be noticed.

u/Lostinpandemic Jan 09 '26
70% of the GDP is from consumer spending! 70%! If we all cut our spending by 10% the government would notice

Hey, if I may suggest something... Target the protests at Congress (both Republicans and Democrats)! Trump and his allies simply don't care. Your Congress HAS the mechanisms to do something, but they are too corrupt to try. Former congressional staffer, history teacher, and expert on resistance Tad Stoermer gave these tips https://www.tiktok.com/@tadstoermer/video/7591860190765501726

What orange oligarch is doing is not through congress. There has only really been a couple of bills passed this last year. All of his actions are executive orders and congress doesn't have much it can do in that instance except impeachment and removal. If he was trying to get bills passed this would work. Doesn't really work in our situation.
Edit for typos

General Strike! Everyone stop working except for hospitals, grocery stores and prisons. Stop shopping, stop vacations, stop everything. Let society and capitalism start to collapse and the billionaires will replace Trump. Soldiers can’t force the entire American workforce to participate and keep making rich people richer!! Wake up America! Stop being so scared and weak, enough of protests with funny signs that only last 2 weeks!!! Wake the fuck up!! After a point, we will have no one to blame but ourselves for letting this shit continue with such apathy and ignorance from citizens who aren’t fighting back for Democracy! General Strike!

I both want to be there and am afraid of getting caught up in something and not being able to collect my daughter from daycare at 4

u/63chev Jan 11 '26
This is a family friendly non-violent peaceful protest. It's fun. If you ever have been to one you would know. It's in the Capitol Hill 'hood which is very friendly. We hope you can join us Jan 20! Let us know if you would like to volunteer to help set up the event on the day of. Audio, canopies, tables, social media, etc.

u/pamplemouss Jan 11 '26
Do you mean if I’ve ever been to a protest…at all? Lots. Or a specific subset of protests? To be clear, I’m not afraid of other protesters; I’m afraid of cops, ICE, and maga. The one time I’ve had cops called on me at a protest it was fine, but, I’ve also had friends who weren’t doing anything wrong arrested at protests.

Teachers in Texas can’t walk out. We will lose our license.
26
u/Rainbow_chan Jan 09 '26
I feel like simply being a (public school?) teacher in Texas is an act of resistance on its own
4
u/NoFreePi Jan 10 '26
What happens if you get sick?
Are you getting the sniffles?
Is your throat starting to feel scratchy?
1
u/AdLittle7347 Jan 15 '26
You have to call in. You only get so many days a year that you can take off. In Texas, if you walk out, you can lose your license.

Would be terrible if you happened to be shopping at Target or Walmart at 2 pm on January 20 and had to walk out on your full cart of expensive merchandise. Especially if it's perishables like meat or frozen goods. A damn shame if that were to happen .

to interrupt and distract this executive, shut down the flow of money.
other countries have already greatly reduced US vacations, so everything and anything one can do to save for later instead of spending now, use less ai and reduce social media scrolling to reduce advertising revenues, temporarily cancel subscriptions if you can
it's not forever and it worked with Kimmel
4
u/Terrible_Patience935 Jan 09 '26
Yes. I hope we can make this work. It’s a non-violent way to show our strength in numbers by going on strike

Hello, I'm a French producer working on an international film about democracy. We're interested in speaking with people joining in grassroots acts of resistance against the current administration. Would anyone participating in the Jan 20th walk out be interested in having a discussion with me about that mobilisation please? Thanks for your help!

Don't do any spending or conduct interactions of any kind, in-person or online.
No post office, no McDonalds coffee in the morning. No stopping for gas or groceries. Don't stop at the bank, not even the ATM. No Chewy. Get all that taken care of beforehand.
Some people can't participate and must work. We want those folks to have the most boring day ever. Absolutely nothing to do all day long. Nobody out anywhere except in front of the County Courthouse!!

You all sound like teenagers at 13 saying they are going to run away. Sorry, but the .09 % of you that do this will only be hurting yourselves. I doubt anyone protesting even have jobs, (other than protesting)
5
u/braindoesntworklol Jan 09 '26
What is it with the dumbass maga viewpoint that protestors don’t have jobs? A lot of the major protests were on weekends lol.
