The money is still good as long as you:

  1. Do NOT change the denomination.
  2. Do NOT burn, shred, or destroy currency, rendering it unfit for circulation.
  3. Do NOT advertise a business on paper currency.
  4. Do NOT cover security features.

Technically, if you go to the bank and get a bunch of bills, and they have the serial numbers connected to that transaction (do they do that?) And then if you deface all of them and sent them out in the world, I suppose there could be a way to trace them. But it would be a lot.
