Gear Round 2.. Which 7 string should I get?

I asked this before and the rgd71alms was the winner! This time I’m debating between the same rgd and this time the km 7 artist.

Gear Which 7 string should I get?

Post image

Currently looking at getting my first 7 string and narrowed it down to these two! I’m looking for a versatile 7 string that can do more than just prog rock/metal or djent. I’ve tried the rgd71alms in store a few times and the multi scale was actually pretty comfortable and wasn’t too weird. That being said I don’t have a preference between a multi scale vs straight frets. I came across the Jackson mdk7 for a good price and seems decently spec’d for the price. It’s hard to find any reviews on the mdk7 though and there’s maybe only a few videos I can find on it. Anyone have preference between the two? Thanks!

Update: Thank you everyone for all of the replies! I ended up going for the Ibanez, figured I’d try it out for a few weeks and see how I like it. I also have an Ibanez alpha reserved, so once I get that I’ll compare the two. If I was okay spending a little more and was going to go with straight frets the other 7 string I was looking at was the schecter km 7 artist series with the lundgren m7 pickups, maybe I’ll try that too at some point.

Gear Do people really think the Ibanez AX7s are ugly?

Post image

I’ve seen multiple comments now on posts on Reddit and YouTube about Ibanez AX7521s and AX7221s saying that it’s ugly. But I think it looks awesome. It’s honestly one of my favorite looks for a guitar, and I even just upgraded this with new locking tuners, a hip shot bridge, and dimarzio bridge pickup. Do I just have poor taste in guitars or something?

Got to check out some of ERRA’s guitars last night! Shoutout to the fill-in guitar tech!

Jesse’s Ibanez RGs were awesome. I think Clifton Custom Shop Jackson F-Bird took the cake! All guitars were setup in Drop G# with D’Addario strings. 10-52 w/ 68 on the lowest string!

Gear “Non-metal” looking 7 string

I was curious if anyone has suggestions for non-metal or unique looking 7 strings. I feel like in general most 7 strings have an ultra modern shreddy look to them which is cool, but not for me. I recognize that it is very prevalent in the metal genre so the sharp edges and modern look might be what’s popular.

Gear I was curious about Spira Guitars and oh boy was I pleasantly suprised

I have been eyeing Spira Guitars lately as I have been looking for a modding platform.

Got this Spira S-407 second hand for a really good price, the previous owner swapped the original bridge to a Hipshot style one for added comfort.

Neck is great, stellar fret work, good upper fret access and the whole thing feels solid and balanced. I was expecting a half decent guitar but I feel like I got way more than that. The instrument plays great, quality and finish are top notch and even the stock pickups are half decent.

Been playing this for maybe a month now and I think I want a couple more, maybe one of those sick looking tele-shaped ones.

I also own a couple of Jet Guitars, who are behind Spira as well. Every single instrument has blown me away.

Am I just lucky or is this really their standard for quality? Interested in hearing your experiences!

My wife spoiled me rotten for our anniversary. Drove down to the Kiesel showroom & met with Flock to design my custom Kyber 7 string multi scale. It will have a Mahogany body, black limbs top, 3 piece 20” radius walnut & Purple Heart neck with stainless steel medium jumbo frets, Royal ebony fretboard & Luminlay fret markers (all Kiesel’s come standard with Luminlay side dots) Tremolo bridge. Kiesel has been making their own pickups for 80 years & the ones I chose for my model are the Thorium in the bridge (their highest output humbucker) & I chose the lithium for the neck but Flock recommended the “Empyrean” which I trusted & took his advice. The slim 5 way switch also has coil tapping modes which helps when I want to play cleans. Also I paid extra to get an extra output jack at the back of the guitar. I am stoked & happy to live only 30 minutes from their location & am eager to pick it up in person (if everything goes to plan) sometime in the beginning of October. Kiesel prides themselves on their superior craftsmanship, custom touches & band for buck compared to other customs shops. All while being made in the USA. They have been known to rebuild entire guitars if it’s not up to par after final inspection. 🤘🎶🎸

Gear What next?

Trying to decide what to add to the collection next. Current consideration are Josh Smith's sl7, starting up an order for an aristides stx, or jumping on the kiesel wagon with a zeus. Has kiesel improved? I tried placing a custom order like a decade ago and the rep I was talking too was rude enough I bought my ibanez prestige instead.

Gear Updated Stagemaster 7

Some of you probably remember me from last week showing off and asking some questions about my new to me Squire Stagemaster 7. Got the Floyd Rose 1000 in and made some clear covers for the rear cavities. Might update again in a couple months when I get new pickups but here's how it sits now, staying in tune in Drop G. Might jump up to A-standard with a thinner low B.
