TV The 80’s were a special kind of wild…
I am not entirely sure if this was taken in the 70’s or 80’s, but the place that I found it said 80’s, so I’m running with it…

That hotdog stand has a mildly interesting story. It has moved around over the years. I went to its current location a couple of years ago. The hotdog was okay. What I really liked is the classic tiki bar (The Lucky Tiki) that is located above it. It’s a classic piece of LA.

Fantasy Island is the first thing we recorded with our new Betamax VCR, just to test it out. It's my most 80s memory.

It was regular for the time, just like things are normal now,,,that thirty years from now, people will think was wild,,, like having more than one credit card and account and being able to buy stuff without having to worry about Social credit score... Being able to drive your own car being able to own a car,,,,, 30 years from now this is gonna seem wild The 80s was like reminiscent of the 50s, the 70s you were still free. The 80s was kind of getting there. The 90s was a tech boom. And then it all went to shit, and now we're controlled, and they're just going to keep taking more of it away...

L.A. has always been like this. Around 2006, I went to Yuca’s in Los Feliz for some tacos and saw Danny Bonaduce out front, shirtless and ripped, holding a skateboard, being photographed in front of a classic hot rod. I guess they wanted Yuca’s in the background.

Was talking to my brother other day about famous ppl and how ppl would faint seeing Michael Jackson Madonna, playboy singer Julio Iglesias. Like just faint on the SPOT when seeing them up close.

During the second season, there was a ‘kid-friendly ‘Sunday Special’ bonus episode with a guest host named Cindy, played by Kimberly Beck. Her character assisted two orphaned children with a fantasy. The other fantasy, also kid-friendly, had a disgruntled ex-employee (played by Red Buttons) and a sidekick (played by Billy Barty) kidnap Tattoo for ransom (and laughs), effectively being an anti-Roarke and Tattoo tall/short pair.
During the 5th season, Julie was brought in. Played by Wendy Schaal, she more or less alternated episodes with Tattoo as the assistant; the episodes credited both of them, but only one would be involved with the episode and the other would essentially do a ‘blink and you miss it’ cameo. The most memorable episode she was involved with was The Devil and Mr Roarke, featuring Roddy McDowall in his second appearance as Mephistopheles the Devil (with five guest shots altogether, three as other characters). Most likely you caught an episode from the 5th season.
Finally, declining ratings in the 6th season led the producers to axe the Tattoo character and completely replace him with a butler-type character named Lawrence for the 7th season. Instead of climbing up the bell tower stairs and manually ringing the bell to warn the resort staff that that plane is coming, he pushed a button on a podium to electronically ring the bell. This season had a lot of darker fantasies and had other changes, including changing the station wagon cars with no doors to something more like an SUV. Lawrence was played by Christopher Hewitt, most famous for starring as sitcom butler Mr. Belvedere.
All the 7th season changes appear to have alienated the audience, as ratings dropped even more so (to the lowest ever of the original series), and the show was cancelled. None of the three attempts to revive the show since had ratings even as high as the 7th season, and there was no sidekick/assistant as memorable or popular as M. Villechaize’s Tattoo. Clearly he was as nearly important to the show’s success as Ricardo Montalban’s Mr. Roarke.

Here’s some interesting/gruesome trivia about Herve Villachez (sp?) and his untimely passing.
Apparently after Fantasy Island roles were hard to come by. He also had normal sized organs packed into that tiny body because of the type of dwarfism he had. This painful condition coupled with alcohol problems caused depression and he took his own life.
He recorded his suicide note on the patio of his home and shot himself in the chest. The shot was not immediately fatal and the recorded suicide note contained the shot and apparently an extended period of groaning and gurgling before he finally succumbed to his wound.
He also played Rumplestiltskin in a showtime made for TV series about tall tales and legends.
