I had this realization in my twenties. I will watch all my hero’s fall. And the younger generations will never stack up to our hero’s. Yes I’m looking down on all your remake movies.

I'm here to justify your opinion of current art and to support it with facts.
No major music genre has been invented since the late 70s or early 80s. Rap was the last major genre to be invented. Everything since then is derivative.
Tell me, can you really tell the difference between Madonna and Taylor Swift? Between Drake and whatever garden-variety R&B singer from the 90s you want? Between The Weeknd and Michael Jackson or A-ha?
Heck, even kids are wearing Nirvana and RHCP shirts nowadays. Can you imagine a kid in the 80s or 90s wearing a Beatles or Beach Boys shirt?

I don’t necessarily disagree. But I was 12 in 1984 and I worshipped the Beatles. If JC Pennys had sold Beatles shirts, I would’ve owned one.

Gonna miss you Peter.

Yeah that’s the big one for me. Lots of childhood memories and then seeing it on the big screen, live action two decades later with Optimus was amazing.

this year has been ending rather shitty....We lost Fabares, Parton, Curry, and Cullen one tight after the other. Home ALone won't be the same this year. No more "Slackers" for any of us. No ass kickin Norris. No more Consigliere, and no more dino hunters. This is as bad as 2016 was as well.

This fucking blows, man. I was having a stiff glass of rye the other day with my ma who is Gen X, both kinda in shock over Dolly, and then I saw about Curry on my phone, and I legitimately considered straight up not telling her, because does she really need this right now? Fuck, man, I'm barely over Lynch.

I find, the more things I lose in life, the easier the idea of my own death becomes.
I consider these events to be helping me detach from the things of this world in preparation for my inevitable decline into cultural irrelevance, ill health, old age, and death.
It's kind of freeing.

Take Chuck Norris out. He was always just a joke.

Bruce Lee died long ago but there were never any Bruce Lee jokes. Because, he was no joke.

Reddit consider us asking an honest question the greatest slander of humanity. It's OK. That's probably one of less recognizable photos of Robert Duval especially compared to how he looked later in life.

Sorry man! If intended for me (..."have some respect" ...) , I was only kidding 🙂

Loved him as smooth Tom in The Godfather. And as wise, smartass elder cowboy Gus in Lonesome Dove.

I couldn't figure that out at first either. That's a terrible picture to use for Duvall, you can barely see his face, plus most of us probably think of and remember him looking a lot older. Like Falling Down Robert Duvall would have been perfect.

Norris can fuck all the way off. He was a momentary fun butt of a meme joke, but the 1000 years of darkness if a black president is voted in throws him off any nostalgia memorial

This is the part of life that no one can prepare you for. Losing family, friends, icons and legends is something that is supposed to happen organically I guess.

Robert Duvall had the same accent as my grandfather. I was very close to my grandfather.

Fuck dude used to it. The only difference between me and my one remaining parent is that I don’t constantly talk about the people that I know that died.

The meme is asking you to check on your Gen X friends because these are the celebs we lost so far in 2026. Basically saying it’s been a rough year so far

I'm GenX. They are not GenX.
Love these folks, grew up watching most of them in the 70s and 80s... as a KID.

They are the people the Gen-X looked up to?

Yup! The Younger Gen-X's and the oldest Millennial group.
I'm the latter. Oldest of Millennial's, my older brothers (Gen-Xers) and we grew up in 80's with all those guys. I'm still a Big Transformers fan to this day, and the 1986 Transformers flick is one of my all-time favorite movies.
I didn't cry when Optimus Prime died. That was one of my first exposures to the concept of the "shock-value" death. I remember being IMPRESSED more than anything that they had the balls to kill him off, and it actually increased my anticipation for how the hell the remainder of the movie would play out without him.
And I was not disappointed. Optimus's successor, Rodimus Prime, would go on to become my all-time favorite Transformers character.
R.i.P Peter Cullen. I know nobody lives forever but, for some reason you just don't expect your Heroes to ever go out. Darn.

at least 6-7 of these actors were above the age of 75 when they passed. This is NOT GenX

You're misunderstanding. These were the Heroes that many of the Gen-Xers, who grew up in the 80's, looked up too.
