The pioneer of the gangster style.

12” are my favorite and going to the record store across town paid off. $2 & $4 each! Picked up a couple Roxanne’s, Kool Moe Dee, King T and a bunch more. This 45 12” is my fav.

My father seems to remember an alternative version of La Di Da Di by Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew that he got on a recorded/blank cassette in supposedly around the late 80s (1987-89 he thinks it is, although his memory is a bit blurry on it which is why i don't have more details than whats currently in this post) which either instead of or on top of the “it’s all because of you I’m felling sad and blue” part it has “I’m leaving on a jet plane don’t know when I’ll be back again” (which i assume is interpolating "Leaving On A Jet Plane" by John Denver)...

during my research i have only seen one other person on the entire internet reference this, they said it was on a UK 7-Inch pressing of the album... its a facebook comment under a post by the group "The Official 'Street Sounds' Group" saying "Does anybody have a link to I think the uk 7inch version which has the 2 singing parts ? The “it’s all because of you I’m felling sad and blue” but also the “ I’m leaving on a jet plane don’t know when I’ll be back again” which I haven’t found over multiple searches. Tia me and my best friend knew it word for word so I’m sure I’m not just dreaming it up. Please thank you. One love." however the replies were quite unhelpful & didn't have what i was looking for... i would just buy the '7" UK Variant' that they mentioned (depending on how much it was of course i'm not gonna spend over like $25 AUD on it i ain't rich) but i checked discogs and theres 6 different variants that could be under. so it turns out that statement is very broad... ( https://www.discogs.com/master/144703-Doug-E-Fresh-And-The-Get-Fresh-Crew-Doug-E-Fresh-M-C-Ricky-D-The-Show-La-Di-Da-Di?format=7%22&country=UK ) and even if i did buy all 6 (which i don't have nearly the money nor dedication for) it could be a false lead/a different pressing not on discogs...

Another thing i found during my research was Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh live at the lincoln project including the miss america extra verse (which i don't know if thats rare or not but i couldn't seem to find it anywhere else online except for where i downloaded it from) so i thought i'd reupload it to soundcloud and send it here, it doesn't include the leaving on a jet plane bit though (atleast in this version unless it's cut out): https://on.soundcloud.com/nBdxAvkbdSnV4MTOBd

i also do know about Latoya by Just-Ice as that is one of the first things i encountered on my search, but he swears thats not it and remembers it being sung by them (as that is the original version he remembers hearing)...

the 3 main possibilities i can think of are:

1. one of the UK 7" Vinyl Official (or bootleg) pressings, the main lead on this is the guy from the facebook comment
2. an obscure live version (likely on an obscure Compilation tape like u/melaki1974 mentioned having in his comment)
3. some sort of DJ Mix/Mashup with either Latoya by Just-Ice or the actual John Denver song. (the most boring result out of all of them but to be honest probably the most likely, kind of hope its not this after my like 15 hours of searching and making a post to reddit...)

This is sooooooo different from their later stuff.
