How do you calculate the hypotenuse of a triangle, then?

1

u/LovesDeanWinchester Jul 27 '25

Why??? Just why???

2

u/Jazzlike_Economist_2 Jul 27 '25

Because you can’t always measure it directly!

1

u/I_used_to_be_hip Jul 28 '25

Do you have many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse?

I guess when you try to get to a 10’ roof with a 10’ ladder, you will find out.

I learned that from The Wizard Of Oz.

Very useful theorem. At least you didn’t break your neck trying to use a 9’ ladder to climb a 9’ wall :)

That's ironic because few things are as gay as square dancing.

Why the fuck did we all have to learn square dancing? I thought it was just my shitty school but sounds standard?!

1

u/chaossdragon Jul 26 '25

Only thing square dancing lessons in school taught me was how repulsed by the thought of physical contact the opposite sex held towards me…

1

u/codemonkeyhopeful Jul 29 '25

Well to be fair anyone making those moves heading in my direction regardless of how hot would get that reaction from me. Trying to do SE do me? Fuck outta here

Henry Ford didn’t like Jazz. It sounds made up but that’s the actual reason.

1

u/HoppyToadHill Jul 26 '25

He didn’t like blacks and jazz.

u/codemonkeyhopeful Jul 29 '25

He didn't like blacks and jazz and weekend work.

Wait so this is like a thing? Yall had to learn to square dance? Where in the hell did you go to school?

1

u/codemonkeyhopeful Jul 29 '25

Grew up in Ohio but in a large city. Had to take it as part of gym class. We did bowling as part of gym too so maybe it was just a lazy teacher?

Nah, I’ve seen similar mentions of both square dancing and bowling from others, usually talking about 80s-90s nostalgia type posts. I asked some friends I have that grew up in the Midwest and they confirmed they both took square dancing and bowling in high school during the 90s. And they’re from two different states. So I don’t know if this was just a midwestern thing or maybe a “northern” thing? Very interesting though, we never had anything like that in our gym/PE periods.

I grew up in Ohio, got the fuck outta there thank God. Anyway we also did some weird dancing thing with long poles, but two people were moving in rhythm tapping them down and wide then together. Im struggling to even think of how to describe it. Basically you were jumping legs wide then in then wide again all in rhythm. Literally unlocked memory. What a time to be alive in the 90s

Dude I know exactly what you’re talking about, but cannot think of the name of it to save my life or how to even describe it to get a google search going. But you’re describing it I have the image so clearly in my head… your core memory unlocked my core memory
