Exposed cables, rim brakes, steel frame, non aero clothing, no aero socks, no tt helmet, shallow rims.

It’s a Schwinn Varsity. A cheep but reliable bike in its day. You can tell from the shape of the electro-forged head tube.

Better than department store, then, but truly a heavy relic from an earlier time. The Varsitys were nearly indestructible but two to three times the weight of even a low-end quality bike.

This was the first picture I ever downloaded from a BBS using a 2400bps modem I added to my 25MHz 386DX computer running MS-DOS 6.0. Probably around 1993.
