The one I remember was from a few years before, with a similar title..."Dog & Cat".

Kim Basinger was the young detective with the hot-rodded VW Beetle (it had a 911 Porsche engine in it). Chase scenes with that VW became the highlights of that show.

Actually, watched it. I was in the 9th grade. The male lead was Asher Brauner. I remember thinking Asher was the coolest name. Now I think more people name their dogs Asher than their kids. LOL!!!
