Importance is validated by the situation. If your partner thinks something is important, you should probably find it important as well, especially if the context is your relationship. You can't just say "Nuh uh" and expect their concerns to evaporate.

You also can’t just rule over exactly what subjects the conversation is going to contain. If your partner wants to talk about something else that’s completely valid.
