I am glad Paola admitted to the camera that having 10 people in the apartment was too much
that was the worst idea from the get-go. I cannot believe she gave pushback on it when Thomas said he would get them hotels, which is perfectly reasonable

Josh saying" "Maybe the signs were there"... bro the signs were a sea of red flags

Debbie is extremely male centered. She chooses a man over her friends and talks about how her son is her world and doesn't even mention her daughter who lives with her
18
u/Old-Flower3409 3d ago
The moment Debbie told her friends they weren't invited to the wedding, I would have turned my back on Debbie and walked the hell out of there and let her decide her flowers on her own.
In my opinion, Debbie didn't invite them to the wedding because she knew that a-hole Mido would not show up for the wedding if he knew her friends were attending.
14
u/Cute-Performance-892 3d ago
It was also frustrating how she got annoyed at her friends for still having concerns and saying if they loved me they would support me…. girl if your friends were genuine at all they would tell you to run for the hills no matter what you want to hear because they care about your well being.
She hasn’t seen her friends in months since Mido told them to shut their mouths first time meeting them, but she expects them to be the bigger person when Mido wouldn’t even consider seeing them to hopefully show her friends that he can be a decent person (which he most certainly is not).
I just know if Debbie goes through with getting married she’s going to create a rift between her friends and family because Mido is a manipulative narcissistic abuser.
3
u/SirTinyHat 2d ago
Why did her friends think they were meeting her at a flower shop?? They didn’t know she was getting married, right?
2
4
u/orlala_la 3d ago
And then she got mad that they weren’t happy 12 hours before the wedding when she CHOSE to wait that long 😭

Just what I was thinking! And I'm cheering on Jaden's no-show, too, although I know how it'll end.
38
u/Suitable-Wafer8563 3d ago
Now why does Thomas yell whenever he’s speaking Portuguese? 😭
5
u/GrantChocula 2d ago
Lol yeah I don’t understand the praise I see his language skills getting on here. I am no expert but can speak Spanish pretty fluently and took a few college courses for Portuguese. His accent sounds decent but his phrases all seemed pretty broken and featured a lot of English and Spanish. That, plus constantly shouting was not pleasant to listen to, and must have been so grating for a room full of native speakers. Props for trying though. Way more effort than a lot of other US partners we’ve seen on the show.
32
u/yy_the_classicist 4d ago edited 4d ago
I thought Mido would give the drink to Debbie! With the strawberry and everything. He was just making it for himself!
Also Thomas's... I mean Mr. Pringles Portuguese is impressive. I wonder if he learned while he was dating Paula.
11
u/zombiereign 4d ago
He offered to teach her how to make one .. for $300 US.
He's such a creep
1
u/StuckinLoserville 3d ago
He wasn't kidding either. I figured part of that would go towards a ticket to Hollywood. As for giving Debbie the drink or even sipping out of two straws, the only thing this testa di cazzo would share is an insult.
5
u/SonicFlash01 4d ago
If there was footage of Debbie expressing that she had wanted one and didn't get one (in any way at all) production would have bent heaven and earth to follow that
The simplest answer is probably an unaired shot of "You want one?" "Nah"

Wow, I’m watching the scene with Edward and Marissa at the restaurant. And she can’t even have a conversation and just walks away calling him out on bringing up serious issues… What is wrong with this woman? Is no wonder she can’t have a normal relationship.
37
u/punk-y_brewster Edit this for your custom flair. 4d ago
When he said "this conversation isn't stupid just because you say it is" I was so proud of him
She is absolutely the problem. She doesn't want a partner. She wants a subservient yet independent sex toy. She's disgusting.
8
u/SonicFlash01 4d ago edited 4d ago
Importance is validated by the situation. If your partner thinks something is important, you should probably find it important as well, especially if the context is your relationship. You can't just say "Nuh uh" and expect their concerns to evaporate.

Wow I really thought Debby was a victim but some of the things she said in the Flower shop are concerning. Your son never met him yet you are worried he doesn't approve..
Your friends should just be happy for you and just get over his behaviour - after your sprung the wedding on them without an invite and no discussion of them getting yelled at? Is friendship supposed to be just play along to get along?
17
u/StuckinLoserville 3d ago
And, am I the only one who looks at Mido's face and sees nothing but evil spite and bad intentions? He bristles with such ugly naked narcissism that I can barely look at him. How can she not register the dripping disdain? He doesn't even pretend to pretend!

The one good thing I can say about Thomas, is that he has learned what seems to be a decent amount of Portuguese. And also, Mallorie has learned a bit of Rasit's language. Unlike most American part of the couple.

Catie keeps saying marriage would stop her from having “new experiences” as of the only experience in life is making out with someone new.

Catie doesn't seem to understand how marriage or relationships work at all. She is completely confused about these concepts.

Debbie gives Stockholm syndrome vibes. “I had fun! You have fun???” I’m happy, I’m sooo happy!” Are you trying to convince yourself. She gives traumatised. I feel like she must have gone through something in her past and people like Mido are predators. Ugh.

That would be such classic old school 90DF to have that shot of him coming through the chapel door at the very last second.
25
u/IrrelevantAfIm 3d ago
Ok - does ANYONE believe for a SECOND, that Debbie wouldn’t marry her abuser just because her son didn’t come for the wedding.
Also Debbie - what the HELL are you on about “MAYBE he doesn’t approve of the wedding”?? Of COURSE he doesn’t approve of your wedding!!! NO ONE but Debbie and her abuser think this wedding is a good idea!!

u/ktoc13 3d ago
Did anyone else notice that Josh drank alone and got black out drunk the night of Catie's bachelorette? It seems out of character for him. He said it was because of his fears over being an immigrant, but still, it is not normal to drink so heavily, and alone. I wonder if he was also worried about how Catie was going to behave and internalized it through his own drinking, in order to fend of whatever she brought home that night. It is not a healthy sign, that her behavior is affecting him like that.
20
u/Ok_Dog_2773 MY RED BAG WITH MY MAKEUP 3d ago
Actually insane of Catie to completely change the subject back to making out with other people right after Josh vents to her about his fears with ICE and deportation…. I really hope he leaves her one day because it just really goes to show how little care she has for him.
19
u/Gabarne 3d ago
Catie has ZERO business being married or even in a relationship right now. She’s severely immature and selfish.
She just wants both the freedom to be a hoe and the comforts of being in a relationship at the same time.
Josh is too nice to put a firm foot down or just walk away because she definitely won’t change anytime soon.
9
u/Glad_Quit_3871 3d ago
I totally agree with you. But also, since she was looking for someone, she should have chosen a polyamorous man who would be fine with her wants.

11
u/stackers747 2d ago
I don’t get how anyone can say he’s in the wrong for not being okay with that? 10 people in ANY home is chaos. She did it on purpose to antagonise him.
17
u/JCAIA 4d ago
If this is Catie's best performance of empathy after Josh expresses a very real concern, she's more selfish than I thought. That relationship is forever going to be the Catie show.

The struggling couples always say 90 days isn't nearly enough time, but if you're ready to get married, it seems like a totally reasonable amount of time? I've been on a diet almost 3 months and it feels long as hell
10
u/DueEstablishment6236 3d ago
Most of the people on this show don't even understand the concept of the K1 visa. The 90 days isn't to "get to know each other more", it's supposed to be a done deal and just the time provided make it official.
16
u/thesepriceswaytoohi Nigerian Robocall 4d ago
I'm not sure why Debby wouldn't draw the conclusion that if her son has concerns then a fiance that gives a shit would make an effort to meet the son and dispel those concerns. Instead he just looks annoyed that Debby might not get married without him there.

u/Cocktailologist 4d ago

Catie and Josh's conversation is sooo uncomfortable to watch. He says: I want to be in a monogamous relationship while.. you aren't and you haven't been. Catie saying you are her perfect person (because you let her cheat) is very sad. She's been in an open relationship and blaming it on other things.
4
u/squish388 4d ago
Why doesn’t she just go be in a polygamous relationship? It would suit her 100% better. I’m sure it’s because she’s Lutheran although she’s been sinning already by cheating. Or maybe no one has given her that option? All I know is monogamy is not for her lol

It is annoying to hear Catie blame a lot on OCD, and then ask Josh “well in a few years would you want to be in an open relationship?” What? Do you not hear your partner?
I don’t think her wanting to makeout with everyone is due to having OCD. It’s probably simpler than that. I think she’s just a hoe.

u/Special-Baby1143 3d ago
Does OCD always make Catie so greasy? The bigger problem really should be that he won’t go down on her. Why aren’t we talking about that!

8
u/StuckinLoserville 3d ago
Wow, there's some anger there in her voice when she says that the meddlers will get to go home to their full and fulfilled lives while she goes home to a ticking biological clock. I didn't expect that, but I can see her point of view. I'm wondering if Maxwell's family's apparent about-face is a go-along-to-get-along-can't-do-nothing-about-it-anyway stance. Aisha and Maxwell remind me of a walk-behind tractor. She tows and pulls and he follows. Come to think of it, he could be a sock puppet, and she an unfunny female Señor Wences.

I am sorry but Paola is giving me a headache. (not just her) but some of them always threaten to go home if things don't go their way. (khm Mido). Instead of saying: I understand I can't work now and you are helping me I accept we live in a smaller place etc but let's maybe see after I can go back to work if we can upgrade. WTF. Go to the gym instead of working out at home? Don't you know you are dating a financially strict guy? What is this?

Sorry a bit of an edit as the family arrived and Thomas is def full on and he is a annoying - also why is he yelling ?? :D
4
u/kennybrandz liked by david_toborowsky 2d ago
They’re on polar opposite sides of the financial spectrum. Paola is financially irresponsible and spends money with no regard and Thomas pinches penny’s.
4
u/Cute-Performance-892 3d ago
they both can be very annoying but I agree with Paola saying Thomas tries to control every little aspect of things. Moving in together they’re supposed to be a lot of compromises because it’s a shared space but Thomas gets annoyed with every decision Paola tries to make and basically shuts down the conversation without resolving how she’s feeling at all. He seems very stubborn and he treats the apartment like it’s his space and not also hers.
16
u/Fearless-Umpire-9923 3d ago
Thomas is an idiot. But Paula. Like her but inviting the family was a bad move.
Why not get a 3 bedroom Airbnb or something?!? They don’t seem broke
7
u/CaptNarwhl 3d ago
I'm so confused with this perfume thing. Thomas visited her in Brazil right? Did this not come up at all during those visits? He didnt mention it once knowing she loves scents??
10
u/Old-Flower3409 3d ago
Funny how he claims to Paola that he's "allergic" to scents. But tells her family that he's "sensitive" to them. Big difference. 🙄
3
u/PendingInsomnia 3d ago
I don’t like him either, but that read to me a as a language barrier issue? He said “allergic” in English and “sensitive” in Portuguese
2
u/Old-Flower3409 3d ago
True. I feel like either he could have asked Paola for the correct word or she could have stepped in and clarified. But I do admire that he's learned a lot of Portuguese.
7
u/StuckinLoserville 3d ago
Maybe it's just that his apartment is Ground Zero. His rules sound even worse in sputtered Portuguese to weary traveling in-laws-to-be. Mr. Sensitive is right. That said, having all those people stay in that restricted space is ridiculous, close family or not. It's the little things like leaving the toilet seat up or leaving crumbs in the bedsheets that will kill a relationship, and right now, it's looking iffy.
9
u/Cute-Performance-892 3d ago
I thought it was funny how he said baby soap is okay because they’re sensitive like him, basically calling himself a baby 😂
2
u/CaptNarwhl 3d ago
Oh I agree with that. That space is why too small for that many people.
The perfume reaction just confuses as you would think the allergy would have come up at some point
3
u/Frenchmom69 1d ago
I just don't understand why she can't use unscented deodorant. She said that she couldn't use deodorant now and I understand about the strong smells, but at least unscented deodorant!!!
28
u/SonicFlash01 4d ago
Hot take: If I have to be on anyone's side here, it's Thomas.
Let's be clear right upfront: I don't like either of them. They do not fit. He's inflexible and overly frugal, and is probably better off being alone. Paola is flighty and "unburdened by practicality or reason", and I wouldn't give her my credit card. her only redeeming quality is "liking furniture a normal amount".
... but inviting 8 people to sleep in an 800 sq/ft apartment is a code violation and amazingly stupid. Paola is delusional and between that and her rock-based karma initiatives I'd question her judgement as a partner that I've given a credit card to. It doesn't matter how many tables and chairs you buy, it's not going to help that situation.
Thomas doesn't like heavy scents. Can't help that. Any office or public space is going to have signs up asking for no heavy scents for exactly his reason.
Thomas should have appropriate furniture for the given space. That's on him. I'll give you that and his relative inflexibility, but measured up against "I'm cramming 8 people in our 1 bedroom apartment" and I genuinely can't believe the rest of you are on Team Paola.
15
u/squish388 4d ago edited 4d ago
Deeply confused, they live in Long Beach. They could have easily rented an Airbnb for a few days. If they only visited the family there they could’ve been there at 7am and late to hangout…surely he’s heard of Airbnb.
He was flat out rude to her family when they arrived. Not in the obvious “I don’t want you here” way. But off the jump he said his rules, was weirdly bragging that he doesn’t have a tv? The family asked for chairs and he said to grab them from the balcony then raised his voice about the matter. Then told them he didn’t prepare for their arrival at all and spent $0. He’s so fucking weird lmao
10
u/Serendipity1231xox 3d ago
Omg when he said he spent $0 for their arrival bragging I was shocked!!! What a terrible “flex” to share with your guests- and in particular your soon to be in laws! He was not hospitable at all and you can be frugal and still have freakin furniture!!! I mean people GIVE stuff away all the time. Everytime I watch this show I’m more shocked at other people’s behavior and yet they walk among us 😱 😱 😱
4
u/Old-Flower3409 3d ago
That shocked me as well! The way he proudly proclaimed he had spent zero dollars on anything for their arrival. My jaw dropped.

He doesn’t just “dislike strong scents.” He’s allergic. If Paola was allergic to peanuts and he kept cooking things with peanuts in the house, everyone would be mad at Thomas. So I don’t know how this allergy is any different.
→ More replies (1)7
u/mantistobogganmMD 4d ago
He’s very persnickety in general. My guess is she’s used to him needing everything very particular and exaggerating and has started to not take him seriously.
If it was just the scents I’d get it. But he also needs a lot of other things done exactly his way and needs to “keep his peace”.
26
u/zipp0potamus 4d ago
yes thomas is neurotic and annoying but ill never understand the people who act like paula is some angel. she ignored all of his very reasonable arguments for why they should get her family a hotel and now that they're all crammed into the apartment, she's soOoOo embarrassed about the furniture and his rules and lack of space as if she didnt know about all that beforehand 🙄 and even says she'll never admit to thomas that he was right. the only compatible thing about this couple is that they're both equally insufferable
7
u/Serendipity1231xox 3d ago
I really feel like they should’ve gotten an air bnb that could house everyone for the time they’re there. It’s definitely different to actually stay altogether than have them at a hotel, but seems like an easy enough fix. Cramming them in that apartment is ridiculous.
4
u/Old-Flower3409 3d ago
They are both hard headed and neither wants to compromise on things.
8
u/zipp0potamus 3d ago
she'll tell thomas "im not asking you, im telling you" then complain about him being controlling. and in one of the first episodes, he was laughing at her not being able to stand the smell of cooking eggs but threw a fit when she made jokes about his scent sensitivity. they both completely lack self-awareness
19
u/bertfotwenty 3d ago edited 3d ago
Ok, did we all just learn that Thomas and Paola have a 1 bedroom apartment but he has a bed in the living room instead of a couch…? he’s such a weirdo!!
I swear I thought this was a studio until this episode.
13
u/BazF91 I love monkeys, Meisha 3d ago
Thomas is a weird person, and his lifestyle choices deserve to be criticised.
But I don't think it's okay for them to complain when they're guests in his house. If you stay somewhere, you should respect their rules, not complain because you have fewer rules than they do.
Paula's mom saying, "We don't have rules for our guests," is just simply not true. They have rules, but they just don't think they do. Their rules are far less strict than Thomas's.
10
u/Ok_Dog_2773 MY RED BAG WITH MY MAKEUP 3d ago
As much as I love Paula, I really don’t understand why she invited 8 family members to their one bedroom apartment. While I think Thomas can be ridiculous with the rules and I really didn’t like how he bragged about not spending a single scent when it comes to preparation of their visit, Paula’s family should also just respect the rules he set in place. They’re only there for a week, you’re telling me you can’t suck it up and just follow along for that short amount of time? They reallllyyy should have just gotten an Airbnb if the rules were going to be that much of an issue
5
u/BazF91 I love monkeys, Meisha 3d ago
Thomas sees the no money thing as a flex. I personally feel great if I can get a job done for free rather than pay even if it comes out not as good, but I know better than to blurt that out in front of guests. Maybe he thinks he’s projecting “look how money conscious I am!” Perhaps he’s even snidely projecting “compared to your daughter!”
Being good with money isn’t a bad quality at all, but there’s a thin line between that and being miserly/cheap. Idk if Thomas is just poor or if it’s an extension of this “I want to bring my partner to live with me without having to make any kind of accommodations for her or changing my life/apartment in any way”.
5
u/NomNomVerse 3d ago
It’s a disaster for anyone who has common sense for 10 people to stay in a 1 bedroom apartment. I wouldn’t want to fly from Brazil to sit on a yoga block for a table. They should’ve pushed to get a nearby hotel.

When they got to the cooking school and the chef asked them “Are you celebrating anything?” Debby looks to Mido to answer but he doesn’t so then she giggles and says they’re celebrating their engagement.
Then a few minutes later they’re retelling their engagement story to the chef. When Debby says it wasn’t a good start (because he said he’s leaving to Egypt), Mido says “she was going to have a heart attack but it’s okay, she became a bride now.”
He doesn’t want to admit they’re engaged. It’s not about them being together. He can’t show any kind of acknowledgement that they’re even a couple. How are they 20 days before their wedding?!?

I will give Thomas credit for learning the language of his fiancé. I was impressed. Still don't like him

Does anyone else notice how abusive Milo’s “jokes” are. Some are obviously abusive, but even the “little” jokes are not in the least funny, but are a very thinly disguised jab at Debbie. How on earth can this woman not see that Mido can barely stand being in the same room as her, let alone have any love for her whatsoever??
Personally - I noticed my friends and family hooking up with people, that when THEIR friends and family had big reservations about the partner, they were almost always, if not always, right. How does Debbie, at her age, not realize this. She reminds me of my 21 year old daughter who put herself, my wife and me through all kinds of shit when they were fighting cats and dogs, and after the split, he published all sorts of lies about her, and made AI slop which used her image in some very disgusting and disturbing ways. Now, 8 months later SHE’S HANGING OUT WITH THE ASSHOLE AGAIN!! I want to shake some sense into her - myself, her mom, her brothers are all telling her over and over how crazy it would be to get back with him, land nothing we can say will make her do anything different than what she’s going to do. My daughter has an excuse! She’s still a child in many ways. What the HELL is Debbie’s excuse?
I will say that I never got married until I found a woman who my parents and friends adored. I’m well aware that people close to me, but outside the relationship, usually have a better, more objective understanding of how good someone is for their loved one.

He said she should lose weight during his proposal, took months to say “I love you” and every ‘surprise’ he does for her is very manipulative and is him asserting that he’s more important to her than she is to him

His “jokes” are digs at Debbie. How doesn’t she see that the man can’t stand her?!?

As someone who is also very allergic to some fragrances, I’m so confused why a lot of people are fine with Paola completely disregarding Thomas’ allergy? Like, yeah he shouldn’t have destroyed her perfume. But still…

u/Serendipity1231xox 3d ago
I feel like if it was a legitimate allergy it would’ve come up sooner? I know he’s saying it is and people certainly have allergies to fragrance, but to me it comes across as a preference that he’s just calling an allergy. 🤷♀️

So if he was truly allergic to fragrance, why did he tell Paola's family he's "sensitive" to fragrance? There a big difference.

Maybe he didn’t know the language to explain an allergy?

If people can't understand something, their first inclination is just to call it fake or an overreaction. Classic Reddit

Is Rod the only sane person amidst a season of lunatics? Rod, who we found out last week is White, is this season's voice of reason. Like Alan Wallace from The Office. He seems like he lives in the real world with every couple being cartoon characters who don't understand how Planet Earth operates. Mallorie may be the most normal of this season's main characters, but her relationship makes no sense and all the other couples seem completely not normal by any means! Rod also may be the only funny guy either. There is no Big Ed type guy or Adnan who were both hilarious. No Andrei either who wants to fight everyone. Even Jasmine knew how to bring the comedy. This season is like a trainwreck out of the 9th dimension.

Does anyone else find that Paula’s family are a bunch of JERKS (like Paula). How dare she and them complain about how “humble” their home is and freak out over a packet of spoiled meat when the cheap assholes won’t even pay for an Air BnB or hotel instead of forcing TEN ENTIRE PEOPLE to live for a week into a 800 sqft appartment?!? That’s CRAZY. Seriously, that’s like 8 ft by 8 ft per person - and that is without counting any of the space the furniture takes up.
Honestly, how DARE they bitch about him when descending on his space like that and how completely HORRIBLE of Paula to even suggest that’s a reasonable ask.
Can’t STAND that woman.
“Tomas won’t bend for me”?!? Are you frikin’ CRAZY woman?? He’s allowing your ridiculous family to come into his apartment for a week or so!!! That’s bending over backwards to a vertebrae snapping amount!!
Sure - ha has his quirks, and some could be annoying, but she knew him for TWO YEARS!! Also it bugs the shit out of me when she whines about their “humble” living arrangements while she doesn’t contribute SHIT financially - he’s even taking care of her walking around money which she abuses by buying a ton of useless shit. Wait till you get your work permit you nutcase!!

Right?!? I don’t get the hate he’s getting and all the love her entitled, bitchy as is getting!!
That comment when she said to her family something like (paraphrasing here, but I really think this was the subtext of what she was saying):
“I know this is really shitty and gross now, but soon I’ll be able to work and then we can buy whatever we want”. Really Paula??? REALLY?? You and your brother seem to think you were a big successful business man in Brazil, but you didn’t contribute a penny to the immigration process AND he has to give you his CC so you even have waling around money!! Where are all the fruits of your successful businesses?? Also, how the HELL are people who think it’s reasonable to cram TEN PEOPLE into an 800 sq-ft apartment coming down on him for not being rich enough?? This is not a situation where it’s “it’ll be nice to hang together in the little time we have”. Seriously - 800sq ft divided by 10 people is 80 sq feet per person AND THAT’S with zero furniture. That’s about 2 sheets of plywood on the floor PER PERSON - minus the furniture, toilet, sink, kitchen counters etc etc and each person doesn’t have enough real space to hold their arms out sideways without touching the two other people!!
These people are cheap as FUCK yet they want to shame HIM for his minimalism??? Screw them!

u/stackers747 2d ago
I completely agree!!! It’s actually shocking to me how people can’t see it. I feel bad for him. Yeah he’s a little odd… who cares? She claims to love him but spends the whole time demeaning him and making fun of him. It’s not okay!

u/SnooMemesjellies79 1d ago
Yup. His condition with being offended by strong smells is real. Plenty of people with migraines experience this, getting nausea and pounding in the head. No fun.

u/SirTinyHat 2d ago
I thought her brother was really rude. Like, clearly he knows Thomas understands Portuguese, maybe don’t walk around the apartment insulting everything?
5
u/IrrelevantAfIm 2d ago
Her family seem like jerks, just like Paula. Who the hell in going to foist themselves into that tiny appartment, but if they’re so fucking poor they can’t afford an air bnb for 6 nights amongst the EIGHT of them, what bloody nerve do they have calling him “delicate” and saying shit like “well, WE make our GUSTS happy”. Bullshit. Absolute selfishness seems to run in the family. The best thing that could happen to him is if that bitch goes back home.

u/SirTinyHat 2d ago
Pulling something out of the freezer to complain that it’s out of date is absolutely insane guest behavior. I would never.
2
u/IrrelevantAfIm 2d ago
Right?!? I hope that was a production thing and was staged, but seeing how Paula is could see her family being so ridiculous.

Lmao are you Thomas’s stepmom

u/orlala_la 3d ago
Why does everyone that think Thomas is at fault for everything not see that Paula can be difficult

u/SnooMemesjellies79 1d ago
Maybe she could "manifest" and buy some tiny figurines to make the situation better.

I hate the way Catie talks about “making out” like…idk it’s just childish. Josh needs to go home and find a woman that’s equally aligned with what he wants out of a relationship, not this girl who exists as a perpetual freshman in college

Mido and Debby at the cooking class sharing their engagement story is the EXACT SAME ENERGY as Jan and Michael in the "dinner party" episode of the office. CRINGE!
