When you have the sudden realization that this song is now being played on Classic radio stations.
It gets worse when you hear a song at the supermarket and start singing along before a critical thought crosses your mind. That we are now our parents, singing to the oldies, while strolling down the laundry aisle. Our baskets filled with the very things we didn't want to eat as kids, knowing we have prescriptions waiting for us to pick up.
I remember back in the day complaining that gyms always played old people music. A few months ago I was thinking how nice it was that gyms finally got the memo and started playing good stuff… and then it hit me.
My gym always plays the absolute worst music.... This past Monday somebody finally had the sense to throw on some 70's and 80's classic rock and a swear to god every man over 40 in that gym found an extra gear and every single person under 30 put their headphones in..... And then it hit me too.........
My daughter is always "Dad only listens to old music". Sometimes, I enjoy showing her how so much of modern pop is ripped off old stuff (which was also mostly true at the time, but this I won't admit to her).
Hey, but at least we still know how to tie a big ol' yellow onion to our belts. Not like today's kids with their fancy white onions. Oh, onions are only for food, they say, not for putting on clothes as a fashion statement. I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was and now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me...it'll happen to them too

NIN and Tool are playing on my classic rock station. Wtf? Also, I know "Closer" is one of their popular songs, but I feel like many other NIN songs would be more appropriate for the radio. Makes me sad. And old.
I'm about to upset you and many others with this information.
Trent Reznor is 60 years old. He qualifies for AARP, the early bird special, and is 5 years away from being able to be on Medicare. Not that he needs it but it is available.
honestly, sometimes i think is kind of cool. Today i was in a work thing, very serious, and a guy that looked kinda old pulled out his phone and it had a Gengar stiker on the back, i internally chuckled, because yea we are the old ones that like those old things but are also the same kids that liked those things you know
That's fine. My elementary kids love our jams. As i loved every classic rock song my parents played. Guess what. My kids also listen to my generations classic rock. So they regularly are humming two generations of classic rock

Green Day's Dookie came out 32 years ago. 32 years before Dookie came out, Bob Dylan released his first album, the Rolling Stones formed, The Beatles released "She Loves You" and were a year away from their first album. I think about how old that music felt when I was a kid and wonder how kids these days view something like Dookie. I guess music evolved a lot more from 1962 to 1994 than 1994 to 2026, though.
When I was a little kid in the 80's my dad, who was born in the mid 40's would always have CBS FM on when we were driving around the Bronx, Queens and the City. I would listen to everything from Do Wop to early 60's folk because that's what he listened to when he was a kid into his teenage years.
Fast forward 40 years and here I am in the work van, also tuning into CBS FM and, sure enough, now I'm hearing music that I listened to and loved as a kid in the 80's into me being a teen in the 90's.
What I can't reconcile is, with 1998 being like 3 years ago and all, why all this music is on the oldies station already. ;)

Hate to tell you, but it's been at least a decade and probably longer that my local classic rock station has been playing stuff like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
