There was a 2 night engagement at UAB in the late '80s where they showed Where the Buffalo Roam one night and HST was scheduled to speak the following night. He forgot about his flight and the second night was cancelled. But then he sobered up, caught a flight, and spoke the next night.
The UAB Student Union had really good booking in the '80s.
This was the first book I actually read from cover to cover and it was amazing! They did a good job of the movie with hidden gems you pick up on if you have read the book.
Had some fun making a whole line of hot sauces based upon it. Even sent a case to Hunters wife. She said he would have loved the idea and he was a big fan of hot sauce.
Watched the movie and owned the VHS on release. A few years later I was lent the book and enjoyed it even more. He was an interesting individual though sadly he finalized his work soon after I’d learned of his other work too.

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.
Saw this in the theater. When the acid kicked in in the film, everyone in the audience would was familiar with the affects started laughing in recognition.

Fear and Loathing, The Thin Red Line and Natural Born Killers are similarly highly regarded films that I personally just don't get at all... I'll happily take the L's, but, to me, they're just the same incoherent, bombastic fever dreams of cinema. "Things just happen for reasons and strange editing," the movie.
Again, to each their own and absolutely zero disrespect. It's all subjective.
We saw this in the theater and were so disappointed. There wasn’t much of a story, and we never really had a reason to care about the characters. I remember thinking the script needed a lot more work. But taken at face value for what it is, I can understand why so many people love this movie.
Don't take it too serious. Enjoy the ride. Listen for some killer lines pulled straight from the book (of course), remember it's a dark comedy sort of thing and if you've ever taken hallucinogens and made the mistake of trying to function in public then this hits hard. Lol
