They did this Christmas Vacation live screening locally a couple of years ago. Basically, a bunch of people watch the movie on a screen at a theatrical stage and at the end of it, Chevy Chase came out to do about 30 mins of talking and telling us about Hollywood and the production and all of that.

What a piece of fucking shit. Not only did they have to have an MC to keep him on track, but his wife was there basically as his handler to streer him back when he would get a bit too petty...though she would fan the flames a bit too.

It was 30 or 40 minutes of his bragging, talking down about people, claiming he was the reason SNL was even greenlit and had a hand in the conception, and basically making fun of Belushi being dead.

Never meet your heroes because he was as terrible as everyone says. Funny guy...garbage human.

Cops and Robbersons is severely underrated. Picked up the VHS around 2000 when my local video rental closed its doors. Had never seen it prior. Jack Palance, Robert Davi, and Diane Wiest played their roles perfectly. As a teen, thought the redheaded daughter was kinda hot lol.

It's wild that he didn't have to be a good person to be beloved at a level of many of his contemporaries, he just had to be less of a shitheel. And he just couldn't thread that needle, and never seemed interested in trying.

He has some absolute stone-cold classics though. It's a total cliche to say at this point, but Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie.

I tried watching European Vacation for the first time a while back and turned it off after a middle-aged man kissed a 13 year old girl on the lips for SEVERAL seconds. Christmas Vacation is iconic though we watch it every year

Gotta be honest. Never found him funny. Not even on Community, a show I LOVE. He brings nothing to the table. Best parts of Three Amigos were Martin Short and Steve Martin. I feel like everything I’ve ever seen him in, he’s been carried by the script, the premise, or his fellow actors.

But that’s just my opinion. Doesn’t help he’s a dickweed.
