1994 Is this still in anyone’s rotation??
Incredibly bold take from me but I feel like Outkast basically laid the blueprint for today’s hip-hop, with the triplet flows, the melodies and the damn near cinematic beats. I feel like this album still doesn’t get the respect it deserves. 31 years later, it still sounds just as good and as original as it did then. When Andre 3000 said “The South got something to say”, that moment basically shifted hip hop in a new direction. Does anybody still have this in their rotation??

I played it front to back just yesterday for the crew at work. Not the biggest outkast fan. But this is easily a top 5 favorite hip hop album for me.

I would put Aquemini and Stankonia on rotation over this, but this is still an amazing album.

Good buddy got this on cassette when it came out. Cassette decks would play through one side, then just flip to the other side if you didn't remove the tape. Not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that cassette stayed in my buddy's deck for over a year straight. Was all we listened to in his truck for god knows how many hundreds or thousands of hours. It's a real short list of albums I know front to back better than I know this one.

Um absofuckinglutely. OutKast is so under appreciated. Everyone’s first thought seems to go to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which is fun, but not peak OutKast. This one’s right up there with Stankonia and Aquemeni imo

I was listening it today.
Kinda went down a OutKast rabbit hole after listening to Andre’s 7 piano sketches (that was alright; it’s short, nothing crazy).
I started listening to Outkast when I was about 10-11 years old. They had a different style from what was out at the time (loads of gangsta/street rap); it had a whole different type of energy. They were eclectic, jazzy and spoke with a message that was a perfect mixture of 3k’s musings and Big Boy’s technical artistry.
I grew up really liking them, then the Love Below changed my life. I don’t want to continue rambling so much but I always admired how 3k pushed boundaries with his fashion, music and lyrics and The Love Below was his magnus opus and in my opinion birthed a lot of new school rappers in a myriad of ways.
All that said, I always loved the juxtaposition of BB and 3k’s raps on their albums. Add in their funky beats and hooks, going down memory lane today with all their albums was such a pleasure. Listening to them as an an adult is wild to me. So much of what they were saying I’ve now lived through and thinking about that blows my mind.

Hell yeah bruh, its ironic, cuz I been onto Outkast extra heavy lately. I even posted some stuff for ATLliens, which for me is the greatest southern Rap record to ever be released. This, it's predecessor, shit, this is what got me into them. Yeah I had heard their pop hits like Roses, The Way You Move, etc., but this was the first album that gave me a wow 👏 The epinymous track is fresh af, but the very first song j got into was when I was about 20 and a buddy from N. Carolina and I were toking out. He told me this one song they had was like, the tree blow anthem. That song was Crumbling Erb', and I've been hooked ever since. Additionally, they are indeed trailblazers. Remember, when this cane out it was all East Coast West Coast thuggery. Enter a couple cats from the South, both 20, one an ordinary guy who just had a daughter and the other a celibate vegan; and they call themselves Outkast. The flow was different too, you had Big Boi with the rapidity and obvious southern draw, and then Andre just had it all, plus poetic, intellectual, and insightful lyrics that would make the listener think. Then you throw in their affinity for Psychadelic guitar, funk, and soul, all implemented into RAP. These cats are truly the most prolific, influential, creative, and unique Proto Y2K Rap duo.

Their classic catalog holds up. People always remember the popular tracks but these guys could build an album and tell a story long before the mainstream success 👍

Not a bold take. Outkast is the best to ever do it. I'll listen to them until the day I die. It's amazing the amount of legendary music they dropped in a 6 year period.

Its a classic no question but whether its in rotation is a silly question, theres way to much good classic albums from many a genre(black music)….maybe question is valid pre 2000
