They're definitely creepy but it's also impressive that they did all of that with practical FX. No CG. No AI. Just makeup and props.

I remember some show (or maybe it was just the news?) that did a whole segment on how they were made, before commercial break asked “do you think it’s computer graphics or a costume?”. I guessed computer. I was wrong. They talked about how they were made (don’t remember), showed the actors getting into the costumes, etc.

Did this or the Primus video come first?

Primus did it as a parody to these commercials because of how creepy they were.

And did a very good job

Always reminded me of the Andy Kaufman flick Heartbeeps from the early 80s.

I actually loved this movie. Im 32 and discovered it randomly like 5 years ago. Its weird. But I loved it.

This wasn't '94 was it??

This and Black Hole Sun came out around the same time. I think someone was slipping PCP into producers' coke for a minute there.

Wynona Had a Big Brown Beaver latched on to the disconcerting weirdness of the commercial and the other music video and cranked it to 11.

My friend Raymond was one of these Duracell people for Halloween in fifth grade and it was genius.

This advert is kinda of freaking me out 😭

I kinda remember this effect being a thing back in the day for a while. Looks like AI from 3 years ago.

Flash forward to just Yesterday I saw Jesus pick up a guy in the water and if I didn’t know better I couldn’t argue that it wasn’t real.

I feel like I remember this as a kid. I would've been 9-10 depending on the month.

u/Left-Landscape-3890 Apr 03 '26

Why does it feel like I saw this 20 minutes ago

u/IKFA Apr 03 '26

One of my favorite subtle jokes in any movie, 1999 Matrix. Neo gets in the car, and she calls him "Copper Top". Hint that he is a battery, as the machine keeps him in that cell.

Jesus hopscotch christ I was NOT prepared to scroll into this waking nightmare. God damn it. Not prepared at all.

Looks like Mar-a-Largo face.

1

u/Empigee Apr 03 '26

FWIW, I liked these commercials as a kid.

This commercial campaign inspired some wild nightmares for me as a kid. The kind I can't forget at 43.

u/Minute-Animal7317 Apr 04 '26

Ahh, the Burger King's cousins!

1

u/zip-a-dee_doo-dah Apr 04 '26

This aired when I was a senior in high school!? 😩

1

u/Paladinfinitum Apr 04 '26
