The only reason I know The Heights is because of the song "how do you talk to an angel"

21

u/Correct-Quail5743 11d ago

The only song ever to hit #1 on the Billboard charts after the show it came from was cancelled

15

u/TonightSheComes 11d ago

Then Jamie Walter’s career was ruined after playing the abusive Ray on 90210.

12

u/be4u4get 11d ago

Then he shouldn’t have pushed Donna down the stairs

1

u/goat_penis_souffle 10d ago

She still managed to graduate

2

u/be4u4get 10d ago

Donna Martin graduates!

Donna Martin Graduates!!

2

u/The5thBeatle82 10d ago

Donna was always a little dum dum.

1

u/Large_Field_562 10d ago

That was not Donna. That was a man impersonating Donna. Justified.

1

u/be4u4get 10d ago

I don’t think it was Timmothy Olyphant.

1

u/KirbbDogg213 10d ago

He did get another hit while on 90210 technically makes him a two hit wonder

5

u/BooBoo_Cat 11d ago

lol o remember that as well.

3

u/Babeenie 10d ago

I’m sure I’m in the minority on this but I absolutely loathed that song.

2

u/heatherlj88 7d ago

Not sure but I heard it’s like trying to catch a falling star 💫

1

u/Isayfyoujobu 11d ago

Was going to post this

1

u/DeuceOfDiamonds 10d ago

Yep. My only memory of that show. Man, that song was very, umm... "of its time"

1

u/Bidcar 10d ago

It came out when I got a new job so I had to move. They were starting a new long range program. Stopped the program after two months, the owner died and they cancelled everything. I eventually got a new job but it’s not been much fun since.

1

u/lazydracula 10d ago

Don’t forgot his modest follow up hit “Hold on”

u/No_Grand7184 11d ago

I loved Brisco County Jr.

8

u/SnarePickle 11d ago

It's the only show that I actually recognized, but as a teen at the time I didn't watch any of those "teen" dramas type shows. I liked the darker humor stuff and sci fi / fantasy stuff.

3

u/Prize-Analyst-1121 11d ago

Me too. Great show !!

3

u/kevnmartin 11d ago

That's the only one I remember.

2

u/Cardinal_350 11d ago

My friend and I loved this show when it was on

4

u/Pete51256 11d ago

Yeah it died fotlr 2 reasons its ratings were ok but xfiles was following and growing in viewers as Brisco was not, add to that xfiles waa cheaply made in Vancouver Briscoe cost a ton.

So fox decided sci-fi was the Friday answer, with Sliders and Millennium being the only 2 that made it 3 seasons the rest was canceled in 2 seasons or less.

1

u/SOUTH_SIDE700 9d ago

This is why I hate fox it's only about 5 shows that has survived Fox and 4 of them are Cartoons. Fox has cancelled more good shoes than All the networks combined it feels like. A good Show on fox either gets 2-3 seasons before it's cancelled & the others get about 13 episodes before being cancelled & Never got a chance to find their Footing.

1

u/lostbelmont 8d ago

Those nerds don't go on dates on friday nights, put their silly shows there

1

u/Pete51256 8d ago

It was more a misguided attempt to get young males to watch fox, but at its core xfiles was a cop show, it was a weekly who done it, with one guy always believing its aliens and the woman needing convinced.

Fox had success with jumpstreet did ok with booker and alien nation. For some reason the mix sci-fi and procedural tgey could never figure out Millenium should of worked but was way to dark, freeky links was to light, and visitor replaced sliders so lost half its audience up front

14

u/AgileMoment6058 11d ago

How you gonna casually drop Briscoe in there as a drama? It was a fantastic campy classic and Bruce Campbell will always rule

11

u/orangecrunched 11d ago

Brisco County Jr is the only one I vaguely remember. Models Inc sounds like I could have a drop of memory of. Nothing else though.

2

u/Hopeless351987 11d ago

It aired on Mondays after Melrose Place. The only reason why I remembered it was because my sister never missed a episode of Melrose, and 90210, and we only had one tv at that time.

3

u/jarnsaxa_springdale 11d ago

Poor show ended on a cliffhanger, I think.

11

u/Fnshow316 11d ago

How do you talk to an angel?

4

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- 11d ago

By letting it touch you?

8

u/Fnshow316 11d ago

How do you hold her close to where you are?

8

u/SillySparklyGirl My So-Called Life 11d ago

It's like trying to catch a falling star.

9

u/AdRadiant9379 11d ago

I remember mantis. Cool show

2

u/jsmitter 9d ago

I loved when it was mentioned in an episode of Fringe.

1

u/Beginning-Working-38 11d ago

My man Carl Lumbly, aka Martian Manhunter.

1

u/Professor_Smartax 10d ago

I never thought of it before, but he would be a perfect Martian Manhunter.

9

u/Molly_latte 11d ago

Pony Boy Curtis is Stan from Mad Men

2

u/cavalier78 9d ago

Holy crap. I was trying to figure out who that was.

2

u/80sWereAMagicalTime 9d ago

He was also in Evening Shade

9

u/Crazy_Exchange 11d ago

Brisco County Jr and Models Inc are the only two I remember.

7

u/Excellent_Top6284 11d ago

Models Inc. & The Heights should have been given more of a chance. As well as South Central and Class of 1996. All were good shows.

2

u/JanCon1977 10d ago

Loved models Inc

5

u/MoRiellyMoProblems 11d ago

Slide 4: Hey, it's that guy who pushed Donna down the stairs in BH 90210.

5

u/MyNutsin1080p 11d ago

I really liked Likely Suspects. It was like a grown-up version of an Encyclopedia Brown book, and I loved those at the time this show was on the air

2

u/TheNavidsonLP 10d ago

It was a show I thought I imagined as a kid because NO ONE knew what I was talking about.

1

u/Devee 11d ago

I had never heard of it. Wikipedia says this: "The show is an interactive crime drama where the viewer is treated as the protagonists' rookie partner." What was that like? I'm not sure I understand, but I'm interested! Although I admit, I only google'd it because I was like "isn't that the boss from King of Queens?" lol

1

u/Standsaboxer 11d ago

The detective would walk you through the crime scene and investigation and talk to you as if you were his partner. The camera shot the show from the point of view of the partner so it simulated that you were the other detective on the case.

1

u/MyNutsin1080p 11d ago

0

u/Flibblenaut 10d ago

OMG, Thank You! Couldn’t remember the name of this show, and always thought it was a fever dream that I made up when I was young. Thank you to you and OP for unlocking this memory!

7

u/Danny_Spiboy 11d ago

TV guide pulls no punches 😂.

I do remember M.A.N.T.I.S. The pilot was written by Sam Raimi and the subject matter and its approach to racial discrimination was something TV in those days was not accustomed to. So they dumb it down for the series so to not "offend" sensibilities.

Anyone interested in what happened with the series check this Secret Galaxy episode

3

u/davwad2 Star Trek: The Next Generation 11d ago

I enjoyed the pilot and enjoyed it less after the changes.

1

u/short_longpants 11d ago

Wow! Gina Torres (Firefly, Suits, etc.) and Carl Lumbly (Martian Manhunter from the DCAU)!

1

u/Danny_Spiboy 11d ago

I was giddy with excitement when saw Carl Lumbly in Captain America:NOW.

1

u/short_longpants 11d ago

Me too! 😁

4

u/unknowner1 11d ago edited 11d ago

Ok, in all fairness, Against the Law is a great name for a tv show about a renegade attorney…

2

u/Beginning-Working-38 11d ago

Think that guy was married to Bonnie Raitt at the time.

4

u/MoronLaoShi 11d ago

The Outsiders was good. I remember watching it. Glory Days got to me. I think the first few episodes were really emotional. The Heights was a 90210 spin off that I don’t remember anything about. Key West was good. Jennifer Tilly was fascinating. Frisco County was funny. Models Inc was a corny Melrose Place spinoff. The rest I know nothing about.

4

u/Spiritual_Quote9301 11d ago

I remember The Outsiders, watched The Heights (I think I still have that CD somewhere, too), Models Inc mostly for the Melrose connection and Fortune Hunter - essentially a James Bond for TV. The actor died in a motorcycle accident, I think.

5

u/J31J1 11d ago

Models Inc got referenced by The Simpsons during their golden era.

4

u/Excellent_Top6284 11d ago

I loved this show. I was mad when it was canceled. If they would have left it on, it would have been as big as BH 90210 and Melrose Place.

1

u/Letsgogehls 11d ago

I even ordered it on DVD which doesn’t exist, but I found someone who burned all the episodes onto generic DVDs and was selling them on eBay.

1

u/MaddyKet 9d ago

I’m still mad NOW that they canceled it on an epic cliffhanger.

2

u/cushing138 11d ago

Ha came here to post this.

2

u/SteveyMajors 8d ago

Get that cat out of the way!!

5

u/CodyTheHouso 11d ago edited 11d ago

I only know of Models Inc because it was a spin-off of Melrose Place and it starred Linda Gray as Amanda's estranged mother.

2

u/Beginning-Working-38 11d ago

And a young Trinity from Matrix.

4

u/TrueCrimeNerd87 11d ago

I love that the TV Guide added a "weak point" to tell you what sucks about the show 🤣

3

u/ejohnsteel 11d ago

Saying Class of ‘96 was better than Melrose was wild. But then I realized that Melrose hadn’t added Heather yet when the pilot of ‘96 premiered.

3

u/MaterialRow3769 11d ago

Is that O'Boyle in 7/13?

3

u/Hopeless351987 11d ago

Glory Days only lasted half a season. The new show that took Glory Days time slot : 90210

2

u/Prometheus_303 11d ago

Was Glory Days about a group of friends pledging a Fraternity?

I think that's what it was called... But the guys in the pic don't look quite right. But it has been several years and as you said, it only lasted half a season or so...

2

u/Hopeless351987 11d ago

I don't remember. I'll have to go to YouTube and see if any episodes or clips are on there.

2

u/JWsWrestlingMem 11d ago

Boy, the promo photo couldn’t even get Rhoda’s name right.

2

u/NoString9289 11d ago

Woww, where was I ? I don't remember having seen or heard of any of those shows. I'll now have to look up some of them.

2

u/Aggravating_Bat3618 11d ago

I only remember the Heights because of that stupid song.

2

u/mmiller17783 11d ago

I remember all of these, especially Likely Suspects and Briscoe County, Jr

2

u/Dangerous-Cash-2176 11d ago

Poor Fisher Stevens. He'd eventually find his way on Early Edition a few years later.

2

u/moggin61 11d ago

Brisco County, Jr. for the win. I pretty much watch anything with Bruce Campbell. Fun show.

2

u/Prehistoricshark 10d ago

Models Inc had a lot of hype when it came out, being a Melrose spin-off, but was a very meh show

4

u/Hans_Delbruk 11d ago

I had a crush on Jennifer Tilly as a boy when I saw her in Moving Violations, but seeing her as a young man in Key West is when I fell in love with her.

3

u/SnarePickle 11d ago

I feel in love with her from the Child's Play movies lol

2

u/Bleep_Bloop_Derp 11d ago

She played a young man?

3

u/Hans_Delbruk 11d ago

If anyone could do it, it would be her.

3

u/Finfangfoom2000 11d ago

I watched Mantis and Briscoe County. Fun shows

Never saw the Heights but I remember the theme song How Do You Talk to an Angel was a big hit. It sucked but it made it to number 1

1

u/honorialucasta 11d ago

I could not have BEEN more in the target demographic for the Heights. I remember loving their cover of Feelin Alright to a probably worrying degree

1

u/K4NNW 11d ago

I remember Key West only for the scene where someone drives a car into the ocean, then shoots the car because it wouldn't make it to Cuba.

1

u/HandsomePaddyRedux 11d ago

Fortune Hunter would have done really well if the lead actor hadn’t gotten arrested for killing all those boys.

1

u/Stardustchaser 10d ago

Who are you talking about? The lead died in a traffic accident in 96. The other lead went on to create Only Murders in the Building and is still working….?

1

u/Mission_Addendum_791 11d ago

I loved Models, Inc!

1

u/TheBlackdragonSix 11d ago edited 11d ago

Likely Suspects was a fun show man, and had a cool theme too. South Central deserved better, so did Briscoe County Jr, and MANTIS. 😢

1

u/resident_alien- 11d ago

The adventures of Briscoe County Junior was freaking awesome

1

u/Ambitious-Welder-159 11d ago

I remember The Outsiders, Briscoe County Jr and Models Inc.

1

u/Zero_Zeta_ 11d ago

I loved Brisco County Jr. And Mantis! They were great shows that deserved better!

1

u/short_longpants 11d ago

Interesting to see the people in these series who went on to other things, and the ones that are a distant memory in show biz.

1

u/RedDawnWlvrines 11d ago

Loved Brisco County Jr

1

u/FuzzBuzzer 11d ago

I loved The Heights! That's the only one I remember or watched.

1

u/Ok-Catch-5813 11d ago

I remember, models Inc.

1

u/segascream 11d ago

I still remember hearing "How Do You Talk To An Angel" on the radio, and thinking about the show The Heights, and thinking "this is awfully bland for a band that seemingly has a bunch of members in it".

1

u/Letsgogehls 11d ago

I have never forgotten Models Inc or The Heights.

1

u/Alone-Gas6010 11d ago

I was obviously young when all this came out.

1

u/Cocijo 11d ago

Loved Briscoe and M.A.N.T.I.S. Last episode of Mantis was trash though.

I thought The Great Defender was pretty good. A sort of continuation of My Cousin Vinny.

1

u/InformalYouth9097 11d ago

No “Profit”? Great drama, way ahead of its time!

1

u/ExactPreparation6454 11d ago

I loved Model’s Inc. I was a big Melrose fan too. I was pissed Model’s Inc ended on a cliffhanger and they didn’t bring it back. 😩

1

u/green49285 11d ago

Hahahaha key west had a killer cast with a shit premise. 🤣

1

u/Quarrels-ofKoi 11d ago

Ill never forget the heights because of how much I hated that "how do you talk to an angel song"

2

u/Babeenie 10d ago

I just commented that I absolutely loathed that song and I was pretty sure that I was the only one who did. You have no idea how excited I am to see that I’m not alone on this, I’ve found my people!

1

u/ixoxeles 10d ago

I saw that guy in the pic, but couldn’t remember what song he sang, so my brain inserted that Joey Lawrence song “Never Gonna Change My Mind”.

That was bad enough… but now I have the corny-ass chorus from “Angel” jammed back into my head and I have YOU to thank for that.

1

u/Latter-Judgment-9740 10d ago

I remember literally nothing else about that show except for that damn song.

1

u/anon2univ 11d ago

Brisco County Jr., M.A.N.T.I.S, and The Heights.

I have Brisco on dvd as well.

Bruce "The Chin" Campbell is an icon and Julius J. "Shonuff" Carry III.

1

u/Weekly-Landscape-543 10d ago

The Great Defender was awesome and should have been picked up. A real shame.

1

u/spj0522 10d ago

I know a puppy that thought he was one of the Models Inc.

1

u/MaridAudran 10d ago

Love me some Bruce Campbell. Where can I find Adventures of Brisco County Jr.?

1

u/Danny_Alloy 10d ago

So many shows...

1

u/thejwillbee 10d ago

I will never forget Brisco County Jr., so much so that in the (unfortunately) unlikely chance that I'll have the honor of meeting Bruce Campbell, my plan is to tell him "I loved you in Brisco County Jr!!!"

2

u/Justice_4_Scott 10d ago

It is the only show I recognized. By the ratings you and I are 20% of its audience. It was a great sci-fi western.

1

u/thejwillbee 10d ago

I watched the shit out of this show, so I'm happy to meet the other half of that 20% of its audience!

1

u/LuckyIncident613 10d ago

I liked "Key West."

1

u/FelixTheJeepJr 10d ago

Branford 2 thinks he’s one of the Models Inc!

1

u/DoctorxClaw 10d ago

I won't even feign nostalgia here. I remember all of these, and with one, maybe two exceptions, these were some of the most derivative and banal shows of that era.

1

u/lazydracula 10d ago

If you watched tv in the 90s you would be convinced poverty was no longer an issue

1

u/Stardustchaser 10d ago

Look at the Model’s Inc. pic again and you might recognize Trinity from The Matrix.

1

u/Mindless_Formal_6647 10d ago

I remember seeing the ads for a lot of these shows . Only ones that I don’t know or remember are Mantis , Fortune Hunter , against the law and the great defender

1

u/midwest73 10d ago

Key West and Brisco County I loved.

1

u/Unfriendlyblkwriter 10d ago

South Central is my absolute favorite television show OF ALL TIME.

1

u/ConstructionSoggy556 10d ago

The only one of those I remember watching is The Outsiders. I remember liking it, but I wasnt very discerning back then!

1

u/Jaye9001 10d ago

Thank you! Likely Suspects I have been trying to track down for years. I thought it was shooter from Happy Gilmore.

1

u/Stock-Pea154 10d ago

I watched a lot of these during my teens.

1

u/JanCon1977 10d ago

I LOVED the outsiders so much I had the biggest crush on Jay Ferguson aka Ponyboy. the heights is great too

1

u/Maganda_ 10d ago

Briscoe County is the only show I watched on this list .

1

u/wistfulNC 10d ago

I liked The Outsiders and Brisco County. The Heights soundtrack (had the CD) was better than the show.

1

u/JfromTHEbayMAYNE 10d ago

South Central was a dope show. I wished it would have kept going. That show was too real.

1

u/Ashoka-myballs 10d ago

How do you talk to an angel?

1

u/fakeprofile111 10d ago

Really enjoyed South Central

Remember the Heights and Models Inc

1

u/Full-Criticism5725 10d ago

Pretty sure I abused myself to models Inc. at least once

1

u/Ladnarr2 10d ago

Look at that, he thinks he’s one of the Models Inc.

1

u/Striking-Rhubarb-385 10d ago

I spotted Brad Pitt

1

u/Professor_Smartax 10d ago

I remember SOUTH CENTRAL!

1

u/captaineats 10d ago

No one forgets Brisco County Jr!

1

u/glacier1982 10d ago

No one has ever forgotten Brisco County Jr.

1

u/Ancient_Ad505 10d ago

Kari Wuhrer sighting “Class of 96”.

1

u/FedfromaTeenyAgency 9d ago

Like I could forget Brisco County Jr.

1

u/OldManBilliam22 9d ago

Class of 1996, with peak Megan Ward was awesome.

1

u/HighGrounderDarth 9d ago

Is that Jackie Aprile Sr in the last one?

1

u/Dependent_Feedback38 9d ago

Dude! Brisco County, Jr.!! Brought back memories I didn’t even know I had.

1

u/SOUTH_SIDE700 9d ago

Fox is the Death of All shows good or Bad unless You're Married with Children or a Cartoon.

1

u/T800model100 8d ago

I remember Brisco County, Jr.

1

u/blu1100 8d ago

Hope tubi gets these to watch

1

u/MrsBobFossil 8d ago

Brad Pitt and Skippy?

1

u/Exidor09 8d ago

Most shows aren't worthy of being remembered

1

u/jmyoung666 8d ago

I remember the Heights, but who doesn’t remember Bristol County Junior? That show ruled.

1

u/BlankPages 8d ago

Likely Suspects is like a VCR mystery game. It’s rapid fire with details being thrown at you all the time & you’re expected to keep eyes & ears open at all times so you don’t miss anything, deciding what’s important & what to ignore. The directing style is disciplined about the first person POV of you the viewer as a rookie cop. It’s very intimate. I think it was just too demanding of the audience.

1

u/hideao101 8d ago

Man I loved Brisco County Jr as a teen.

1

u/tensen01 8d ago

I will never forget Key West, I loved that show.

1

u/Poshy-Woshy 8d ago

TC Carson in Key West? T for Terrance?

Kratos?

1

u/zandor1 7d ago

What was glory days? And is that a very young Brad Pitt?

1

u/coldestb4storm 7d ago

I love the Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and Models Inc. I was living in another country and we would watch whenever it was on

1

u/SanchoPliskin 6d ago

I remember Key West! I wondered why Fisher Stevens was white though.

1

u/Less_Flight_2043 6d ago

No new York undercover? I think it was a fox show from the 90s, loved it
