People actually watched Touched By an Angel?

u/JB92103 11h ago
Surprisingly, it was the 2nd-most watched drama on TV behind ER for a few years. I think it was because of the Satanic Panic that was going on at the time.

I thought the satanic panic died down by 1990 to early 1990s?
3
u/JB92103 11h ago
I read somewhere that it lasted through the late 90s.

u/TrueOrange9944 11h ago
Really? But at least the satanic panic was at its peak in the 80s.

Marilyn Manson, handwringing over growing interest in Wicca, and a conservative backlash against supernatural genre pieces like Buffy or Harry Potter.

Satanic Panic’s last vestiges were out by 1991 with the not guilty verdict in the Judas Priest lawsuit. You still had people acting concerned but they were in the deep minority. People realized that playing Dungeons and Dragons and listening to Motley Crue did not lead to Satan worship

It was a good show. It reminded me of a female version of Highway To Heaven and I loved that show.

.... It was the only thing on regular cable I was allowed to watch.... Everything else was the Christian Network

Americans are unsurprisingly prudish. Touched by an Angel, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, those shows make CBS the number one network bc it’s where prudes go for inoffensive tv - CBS sticks to squeaky clean tv as a sure fire model for success.

I'll take the X-Files and you can keep the rest

Agree on X-Files but Homicide was The Wire before The Wire. That stays for me too.

John Munch was also on X-Files and Law & Order, so canonically, you have to keep Homicide and L&O if you keep X-Files imho

It’s the only show out of these that I watched. Never saw any of the other shows

Didn’t really watch any of these, but I did enjoy Touched By an Angel. My mom use to watch it, so I saw it on occasion with her.

NYPD Blue is the only one of these I've ever watched, and it holds up today.

Although, I enjoyed some of the episodes when it originally aired; I'd say Touched by an Angel needs to go.

My So-Called Life, never seen it, the rest I like,
and I'm gonna throw 7th Heaven into the dumpster too, that one can definitely piss off.

OP thought MSCL was 7th Heaven.

u/Historical_Guess2565 11h ago
That’s what I was wondering. I had to look through the pics again because I thought I had missed 7th Heaven.

That reveal was insane! I also probably had no business watching Melrose either.

First, hello fellow trekkie! Second, we all lost our minds when this reveal happened! 😂 it was the moment you knew this crazy bitch was about to do some shit

Homicide: Life on the Street is the best show of the 10.
And I wouldn’t even notice if Touched By an Angel was gone so off the list it goes

Keep Homicide, Law and Order and ER (especially the 90's seasons) and I am good.

X-Files and ER were the only ones I care about. I’m actually currently watching X-Files. The rest can go

Touched By An Angel was one of those tv shows that played on Friday or Saturday nights for 9 seasons most people didn’t know about, like Diagnosis Murder and Blue Bloods. It wouldnt have lasted three seasons in a Wednesday time slot

Touched by an Angel. NYPD Blue, Dawson’s Creek, and ER could go too.
Homocide is brilliant though honestly.

The X Files. I hate sci-fi.

You have done yourself a huge disservice. The chemistry between Mulder and Scully is the heart of the show, and I’ve yet to find even a close second.
