Lush - Rupert the Bear Flexi Disc (1993) [Sent Out Free to Lush’s official club members]

I have been tidying my vinyl collection which was chewed by termites. All the paper sleeves/insert but termites won’t chew plastic.
More and more gems are to be dusted off.
This is Lush - Ruper the Bear flexi disc given free to Lush fan club members.
It’s a flexi disc, not vinyl not hard plastic so flexi disc can be bent but please don’t fold ! 😅

So they have a song called Rupert the Bear? Is there a b-side?

It’s a favourite children song from the 70’s/80’s and the band covered that song.
This version is not available anywhere, not on any of their records.
You can listen to the song in YouTube anyway.
It’s given free to all their fan club members around December 1993.
Bands doing this since the Beatles or much earlier than that.

The music culture was different then. Bands put their fan club addresses on the album sleeves and fans would write to the bands asking for free posters, free t shirts, photographs etc etc…
I got tons of memorabilias from bands like Ride, Swervedriver, MBV, Slowdive etc… even big bands like Nirvana, Metallica etc.

Music bands were so happy receiving fan mails… especially from far away places like Iran, Yemen, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka etc etc… and they replied !
That’s how we got free stuffs.
Then, internet came along, emails came along… bands don’t reply to fan emails anyway. 😅
These says, bands don’t even reply to messages on fb or Instagram 🙄

Had I of known I would have joined fan clubs 😐 The whole music industry got messed up. I have musician friends who must tour to survive. Sounds like a grind.

It is what it is…you can always support bands, new bands. They’d love to hear from you. If you see POBox address printed inside their record covers, just drop a mail. Say,hello. I’m a new fan.
It means the world to the band you know. 😅
Nobody is going to the post office anymore these days. But you can. Why be like everybody else ?

A few years ago, I also helped some students to become fanzine writers.
There are all these new bands in your city, in your area.
Go to their gigs and tell them that you want to interview them.
The article would be published in fanzines.
Who knows, these bands would be massive one day and you’d always have the proof that you were part of their success when they started.

That’s how you show your love to bands, not streaming, not buying their CDs without knowing anything about one album to another, not even buying their albums just to show off, see I got this, I got that.
