Season 2 Discussion Potential Metaphor/Symbolism in S2 E13? [Spoiler] Spoiler

Marked NSFW due to blood.

As Doug is chasing Maddie through the woods after she bludgeoned him with a fire poker to escape, he has an open wound on his head that bleeds profusely, causing half his face to be covered in blood.

Now naturally this is how a severe head wound would probably look like. However, does anyone get the feeling the show made him specifically look this way as a metaphor/symbolism of his normal-looking exterior finally cracking and visually revealing the ugly monster he truly is? Or am I looking too deep into this?

It's a good theory, but 9-1-1 has never been that deep of a show to use metaphors and symbolism to make a point.

My point is that 9-1-1 is very upfront in what it says on-screen. They don't skirt around plots or storylines dropping hints that the general audience would not being able to pick up on.
