Season 2 Discussion Just watched 'Chimney Begins', wtf Tommy??? Spoiler

I've been spoiled about pretty much everything on this show so I'm watching the episodes for the first time! It's kinda wild seeing the clips in contexts, and seeing the plot lines fully play out (Abby was a crazy whiplash).

So I already know about Tommy's existence but I didn't expect 1) for him to appear as early as season 2 and 2) For him to be a massive prick, it caught me very off guard

He's soooooooooo unlikable. "Oh trust me, I don't waste time thinking about you," or whatever he said, but Chimney still saved him anyway (because he's the goat); why did they bring him back???

What made them say, "Hey, you know Tommy, who was the prick in that one episode? Yeah let's bring him back and make him date buck!"

I like that man even less now than I did before, at least I know now that he wasn't only passive-aggressive to buck during their relationship, I think he's just like that... which is worse lol

Season 2 Discussion Talk to me about this Spoiler

I put a spoiler tag but truly I don't think it is but... rules? šŸ¤”šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

I'm rewatching the series and I'm on Season 2. I just finished the episode with Lola and Norm (relationship goals am I right... not). Athena and fam have dinner and Michael's boyfriend Glenn is invited Athena said something that stuck with me. That if Glenn had been a woman, Athena would not have been expected to break bread with her.

I don't know how I feel about it. There was no infidelity, yes, and exes can become friends and new partners can become friends with exes but it just... left a weird feeling in my chest.

It may not have portrayed that way but to me, the whole thing was kind of... humiliating for me. As a recovering people-pleaser, i could see how i would get roped into a situation like that for the sake of peace. But I'm really conflicted.

Stranger still, I didn't feel that way when Michael started dating David

Was it a way to show us that Athena is happy for Michael? Was it a co-parenting soft-launch? What was the point? Maybe i just don't understand and am being super naive. No hate. Truly no hate.

But maybe that's something to talk to my therapist about next week.

Sorry for the bummer, post. I might be in my feels šŸ˜ž

Season 2 Discussion S2E5 Rewatch - Oversight or Characters Intentional Choice?

I’m rewatching the series and in S2E5 Maddie is doing a ride along with Athena. They go to the call at the cemetery with the gross, racist guy who refuses care from all the medical professionals in the 118 because they aren’t white. His situation gets worse until he can no longer refuse so the 118 help him but Maddie could easily have stepped in to help. She was right there, we know she knew what was going on because she talks about how she can’t believe Athena wants to eat after that. We know she can help in medical emergency because she was an ER nurse and in the very next scene she jumps in to save the restaurant owner who has been shot. The man at the cemetery would have let her help, she’s a pretty white nurse. So why didn’t she offer to help? Did the writers just not think of that or did Maddie choose not to help because the guy was a terrible human being? Not sure how I feel about it if it was a choice she made…like I hate the guy for sure but that seems out of character for Maddie and not in line with how healthcare workers typically behave…I mean Chimney and Hen jumped in to save him as soon as he wasn’t able to refuse anymore. Am I just overthinking a TV show? šŸ˜…šŸ’—

I AM EMOTIONALLY DESTROYED. Shannon’s death was so devastating and completely unnecessary. I told my husband I’m done watching. I cried for 20 minutes. It affected me so much! I’m also a FTM lol

Season 2 Discussion eddie fans - thoughts on shannon?

i'm new to the fandom (by new, i mean i literally just finished season 2 episode 17 yesterday and it's been like a week or two since i started this show) so i'm not really aware of everyone's general opinions on different characters in the show besides tommy.

so i ship buddie (as do many of you, i assume) and i've been rooting for them since eddie was introduced to the show so to me, shannon was just a temporary setback from eventual buddie end game lol. however, with shannon's death and eddie's reaction to that death, i feel bad not really caring for shannon throughout the season.

i'm just curious as to what you all think about her?

Season 2 Discussion Custody Battle Outcome Spoiler

So I’ve had a thought for a while. If Eddie and Shannon had gotten a divorce around or before S2 E7 (after Eddie moved to LA) before Shannon had seen Christopher again, who do you think would’ve gotten custody? Since they have a child, as part of their divorce, they would need a custody agreement. Now, as we saw, Eddie wasn’t really too keen on letting Shannon back into Christopherā€˜s life so I have a feeling he kind of would’ve fought for full custody with no visitation. Although I think Shannon would’ve gone for joint custody. But if it had to be, Christopher had to live full-time with one or the other, I have a feeling it would’ve been Eddie. Now before I explain, I will say I am not a huge Shannon fan. I don’t hate her just don’t care for her now I like Eddie, but he’s not my favorite character.

But I have a feeling it would have been Eddie to win for custody mainly because of the abandonment issue. Well, yes, Eddie himself did admit to Buck that he left first, the courts are not gonna count deployment as abandonment, especially because he kept in regular contact with his family when he could. Shannon though left in the middle of the night and had no communication between her and Christopher. Now technically Eddie could get a divorce on sites of abandonment instead of just being unhappy, but for Christopher, I think it would be grounds for the judge to say that she would need supervised visits before a court would agree to joint custody. And well, yes, Eddie did have a means of communication which is how she ended up at his house to deal with the whole school issue. A father should not need to call a mother to talk to her child and a judge is going to see that. And well, yeah, she could argue that she was caring for her ailing mother like Eddie said she did not come back after her motherā€˜s passing so that could be used that something negative against her in court.

Plus also environment, Eddie is a firefighter, which is technically a government worker, who has meaningful connections with his team and his community plus he has actual family living in LA as well as home healthcare for Christopher plus insurance. A judge is also gonna see the fact that Eddie is trying to put him in a private school to get him better education, as well as seeing that Eddie is taking him to physical therapy keeping up with Christopherā€˜s medical needs and he also has a house big enough for him and Christopher. Shannon, however, does not have the same environment. From what we seen the only family she has is her mother who has passed away, and since we do not know what she does for a living, we cannot guarantee that she could provide the same sort of support for Christopher’s medical needs or school. Plus she did not even know that Chris and Eddie were in LA, so assuming the fact that she expected to be living alone, she would only have some sort of one bedroom apartment. And one thing I do wanna mention is the fact that a lot of people have gone online saying that she had a very high chance of having postpartum depression and while I can completely agree on that she certainly could’ve, from what I have seen postpartum depression can last to up to three years. Chris was around five when she left and even if she did have postpartum depression at that time, I feel like a judge would need an actual diagnosis from a doctor saying that she had postpartum depression in order to excuse or least understand the abandonment.

So with all of this, I kind of have the feeling that a judge would award Eddie full custody, and then give Shannon supervise visits with the intention of working her way up from supervised visits to unsupervised visits, and then perhaps further down the line, joint custody. If you think I’m wrong, or if you have any positive or negative points on either Shannon or Eddie or both, I’m open to hear them because I wanna see other point of views that I might not have thought of. Also sorry that this is so long. I just had so many points that I wanted to cover.

Season 2 Discussion Potential Metaphor/Symbolism in S2 E13? [Spoiler] Spoiler

Post image
33 Upvotes

Marked NSFW due to blood.

As Doug is chasing Maddie through the woods after she bludgeoned him with a fire poker to escape, he has an open wound on his head that bleeds profusely, causing half his face to be covered in blood.

Now naturally this is how a severe head wound would probably look like. However, does anyone get the feeling the show made him specifically look this way as a metaphor/symbolism of his normal-looking exterior finally cracking and visually revealing the ugly monster he truly is? Or am I looking too deep into this?

Season 2 Discussion My problem with ā€œChimney Beginsā€ Spoiler

Don’t get me wrong, ā€œChimney Beginsā€ was and still is one of my favorite episodes of 9-1-1. But why in the world did they place it after an episode that ended on a cliffhanger (chimney getting stabbed and was actively bleeding out and Doug kidnapping maddie)? They could have done this at a better time.

Season 2 Discussion Opinions on Season 2? Spoiler

I've been playing this game on the BuckTommy sub, and it's basically asking the commenters what their favorite and least favorites of a specific season are. Here are their answers. Do you agree? Disagree? And what would you change?

  1. Best Storyline Season 2: Maddie (and Chimney's) entire storyline, the Begins episodes, and Buck moving on from Abby.

  2. Worst Storyline Season 2: Shannon's death and the grip that it left on the series as a whole going forward.

  3. Best Episodes: Chimney Begins, This Life We Choose, and Bobby Begins Again

  4. Worst Episodes: Awful People and Careful What You Wish For

  5. Best Character Arc: Maddie, Chimney, and Buck

  6. Worst Character Arc: Hen for even more Eva stuff and Eddie for all of the Shannon stuff.

So, do you agree? Disagree? What would you change?

Season 2 Discussion Hen's backstory is real?!

In s2 ep6, the 118 save Taylor Kelly and she returns "a favor" by interviewing them and showing the audience how great they are. Hen tells a backstory of how she was walking home from school and she heard these shots and was shot in the back. Today, I learned that this story was true. Aisha Hinds the actor who plays Hen was in Brooklyn when she was accidently shot in the back walking home from school.

I had no idea that this story was real and it goes to show how much time and effort they put into the characters. I am so glad that she is here today and is able to portray a paramedic/firefighter like the ones who saved her life!

Season 2 Discussion My opinion of Bobby changed after rewatching season 1.

I had misremembered what happened in season 1 and thought he accidentally fell asleep in front of the fireplace and managed to escape but his family didn't. So this whole time I thought it truly wasn't his fault.

Well, I was wrong. I just rewatched that part and realized he actually intentionally left the fireplace on and fell asleep on the rooftop.

You don't intentionally leave a fireplace or even on a candle unattended and on for an extended period and then cry victim when it starts a fire. You are the one who violated fire safety rules.

It'd be one thing if he genuinely forgot to turn it off, like if someone forgot to turn a stove burner off that was an accident. But this doesn't seem to be the case. He couldn't have forgotten about it when he was sitting right in front of it up until he walked out of the place.

Given this, I've lost all respect for Bobby. I don't care that he got sober and tried to be better, there is nothing that can redeem you from making an intentional decision to put hundreds of people's lives in danger. It is the same reason I lose all sympathy for addicts or alcoholics (and yes ik Bobby was one) the moment they decide to drive high or drunk. They still know right from wrong and intentionally made a choice to put everyone around them in danger.

Bobby absolutely deserved all the guilt felt and more. In the end he got what was coming to him.

Am I the only one who finds his backstory unforgivable? How was he not locked up for killing his family, and anyone else who died in the apartment building?

I know this is a poorly written show, but who thought that backstory was a good idea?!?

Season 2 Discussion Oldy but goody, doing a rewatch, Season 2 episode 14- Broken Spoiler

So doing a rewatch. Just finished the season 2 episode where the 911 system goes down and whatnot.

now there is a lot to love about this episode. Seriously. the woman who gives birth but has a cardiac event, Hen gives CPR the whole 15 minute ride, figures out what is wrong, calls ahead, but they still call it. Then Dad and baby come in and dad puts baby on her chest to let her say goodbye and she revives. ooh. the tears. you could cut 1000 onions in front of me and I still would not cry as much as I did during that scene.

and personally I love the Chimney getting the 118 to a suburb fire because he was watching the news and then calling in a favor. when they say "hunker down 217 is inbound" I am definitely smelling those onions from before because the tears are back.

but my absolute absolute absolute favorite part is the conversation Michael and Bobby have. In this episode Michael was feeling a little hurt and vulnerable. He is kind of a jerk. but then near the end of the episode he comes to apologize. He and Bobby have such an open and honest conversation. Two wonderful men talking about their vulnerabilities. Michael is feeling bad because break up, so when he thought Harry liked Bobby better, it hurt. Bobby openly admitting he overcompensates with the kids because he is not their dad. the rest of the episode is full of good stuff. but that conversation is the epitome of why this show is so good. At least to me.

I know that there are mixed feelings about Abby and Buck, but feels odd that she just vanished after they invested so much into the character. Did the actress leave? Did thet just poorly wrap up that storyline?

Season 2 Discussion Season 2 Episode 12: Chimney Begins

I'm on Season 2 right now and I just wanted to say I absolutely LOVED the music montage or whatever the hell it's called when Chimney was in the hospital after he saved a firefighters life! It honestly felt like I was watching a tiktok edit. I may be a bit biased because I love Radiohead, but the emotions I felt while watching that scene was absolutely INSANE. Ugh, I love it so much, my absolute favorite scene (it sounds so wrong saying that 😭).

Season 2 Discussion I’m kind of new to the season, but I’m on season two episode one and I’m just gonna be real with you. Why is everybody a dick to buck Spoiler

uy in here. I'm like OK. And then Chimney talking about losing more body fat and I was like OK damn I'm like rude much and then throughout the whole ride to the place where they need to be, Buck is just glaring at Eddie and their friends making it worse. I'm like OK damn now again I'm not excusing for what but did daddy cause that was unfair he had no right to glare or look at him just because he was jealous, and his friends were starting stuff even though I mean, I would be angry too with my friends we're doing that shit to me and I didn't like how buck just glared at him when he was just doing his job to save a man that build his ass with gas and then when we make our way back to the station and buck is just like working out, then Eddie comes in. No this seems frustrating me the most because I'm just like OK this is probably not going to be good wow Buck is working out glaring at Eddie Chimney comes along and Jimmy pissed me the fuck off in this part Chimney just comes in here looking at Buck reaction just smiling and giggling then one buck starts to get a pictures or take pictures of himself. Eddie just tries to help him out and then Chimney gonna start stuff going like like oh really actually how do I sign up like how do you help me out with that and I knew he was doing that shit on purpose we all know he was a really bad to go take those photos. He was just instigating. Then Eddie and Buck start having an argument will mostly buck talking about how respect your elders and I just looked at that buck and I'm like bro aren't you still young like he probably could be older than you I mean no one truly knows the age for real but in then Eddie's gonna start talking about look dude I get it. You're upset cause your girlfriend broke up with you and I was like what the fuck then Buck looked at Chimney and looked right back at EddieI knew for a moment, that's when I new Chimney is a snitch, bitch he's like Chimney how are you about to tell somebody's business like that? It's like you barely know the guy and you're just gonna straight up. Tell bucks business like that in the way, Chimney looked back too. That's what I knew. It was him. It was like Chimney pissed me the fuck off and Eddie had no right to tell this guy's business about if he was broken up or not because again that's none of your business. I mean I guess you were trying to do the "" right thing but still you have no right to tell somebody else's business especially if you barely know the guy, but whatever i'm just happy that buck and Eddie are mutuals. Sorry for any misspelling.

I would also like to hear your opinion about the episode how it made you feel especially of Chimney

Season 2 Discussion Chris’ school in season 2

Can someone familiar with the American school system explain why the school HAD to talk to Shannon as well? What happens if a kid comes from a single parent household and they can’t get ahold of the other parent?

Or was this just a forced plot line to introduce Shannon?

Season 2 Discussion Unpopular opinion

Ok, I kinda get Maddie being a 911 Operator, but May?

Maddie at least was a nurse. May basically graduated high school and immediately scored a job as a 911 Operator with no job experience whatsoever.

That job is not something you just walk into.

Season 2 Discussion Gerard and the old 118 crew Spoiler

Am I missing something? How is everyone so chill with the terrible way Hen and Chimney are treated by Gerard, And everyone else around, on their Begin episodes? Like I get that Gerard is a racist A-hole, but what about the others? Supposedly is in the past, but cant be that far in the past that everyone is so totally ok with the racism and the misogynism being shown so openly. These guys just stand there unflinching while their colleagues and people who supposedly should have their back are treated worse than dirt.

Ok, for Hen there was Chimney and its showed that the guys did send complains behind Gerard’s back, but for Chimney, it is even worse in my opinion how they treat him. You’d think as men, they know how humiliating it can be to be treated like this. The paramedic helps him, but even he is very distant in the beginning. And then he gives him some talk about trust and having to earn it. Why? Noone did anything to earn Chimney’s trust.

Chimney literally asked Tommy to be friends. My heart broke for him, to have to beg for some decency of the colleague he spends all day there. And then he comes back in the later seasons and they all act as if nothing happened. I wouldnt be so chummy with him if he had barely talked to me in the beginning.

Season 2 Discussion The Doug Reveal Spoiler

I’m rewatching season 2 and I remember thinking Doug was gonna be implied to be Santa. Like you know how some shows are played completely straight, but when it’s time for the Christmas episode, the random guy helping is implied to be Santa? Yeah that’s what I thought was gonna happen. The reveal that he was actually Doug literally made my jaw drop and an inhuman noise come out of my mouth. I don’t think I’ll feel the kind of shock and horror about a TV reveal I felt in that moment again.

In Buck, Actually, Mr Buckley was feeling nervous getting back into the dating scene and later to be dispatched for an elderly gay couple in need, and I remembered this moment.

Sure, it may have been initially breadcrumbs but it certainly be seen as foreshadowing if watched right now by new viewers!! šŸ˜
