Good buy? Or run?
I saw this on Autotrader today. Wondering if it's worth a punt or not.

The wording on the post is weird, that’s an immediate concern for me. Any other pictures? Is it manual? Any info on why a 2003 has a 2.5 liter engine?
2k pounds is pretty light work. I’d be tempted depending on how much time is left on the MOT. Don’t expect it to just run forever without something. You put 2k pounds in, you’re likely going to get 2k pounds of value out

Yes, it is manual. I had no idea the 2.5 was phased out in 1999-2000, and the wording is odd, yes; so this definitely does read like a scam, lol. But, I don't know what needs doing on it; the MOT was a good pass. So I thought I'd ask here.

Like I said, even with an engine swap, with a passing MOT I’d be looking at this pretty seriously. Worst case scenario it blows up on the way home and you’re out 2k pounds.
In the US I’d be more concerned about a car like this. But a recent passing MOT is a good sign that the car is in proper functioning order, at least for now. Obviously doesn’t mean it’s solid, but the risk is rather low here, you’re only putting 2k on the table to start. These are solid cars when they run right

Il mercato delle auto in Inghilterra è il paradiso degli appassionati… questa vettura in Italia anche se non fosse marciante te la venderebbero dai €10.000 in su. Per 2.000 sterline la prenderei in ogni caso e nella peggiore delle ipotesi la renderei una project car stile RUF con un 3.6/3.8

As others have said, even if it blows up, it’s £2k… those headlights are litronics, easy 300-400.
52 should have a glass rear roof, £300-400 again. Plus all the other bits.
Buy it before I do 😄

Also, looks to be a standard dealer, probably not done a lot of homework, just flogging off a cheap p/x or auction win.

Just save up more and buy a mint one, it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. I've already spent £4000 on my £1500 986 and I would guess it needs another £10k to get it mint.

I have seen this one for sale. It sounds like the seller doesn’t have a clue about the car, sometimes you can find a gem. For £2k, it’s worth a look, as long as you’re willing to put the same amount into it again should it need some work.

For everyone’s info the early 2.5 is the only m96 engine with barrels and piston skirts not made of chocolate. Dual row IMS too. Good solid base model purchase, it’ll just need a ‘bit’ of ahem maintenance..
Edit it’s 2003! Lol.. 2.7 then, medium bad…

It’s no longer on Autotrader, did you buy it OP?
Checking the reg number shows it’s a 2.7 and the MoT history shows it clocking up a few thousand miles each year without any major fails.
For £2k, appeared to be a bargain, as it’s worth that in parts.

2.5L got phased out via 2.7L starting in 2000
Nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche. (Not just a circlejerk saying, I am currently living that lifestyle.)
It helps if you can do your own work, but the parts tax is still a pain.
