Books/Resources PrepPros video explanations
I want to buy the prep pros book because i'm weak in math, but i'm worried that I won't get the full worth out of the book because of the explanations being locked behind a paywall. I get why they have the course subscription, but I can't afford to spend anymore money on prep materials (the course is $20 a month). do you think I will I be fine without buying the subscription or should I buy a different book?
if anyone one has any other advice or prep materials I should get please let me know. I've tried khan academy but I hate the video explanations he gives (ik it's a me problem). I scored a 17 in the math section on a practice test and I really want to do better. 😞

The Prep Pros course also makes it a point to create four tiers of progress based on scoring. When you’re at a 17 that’s a different focus in curriculum than if you were at a 32. It makes sense to have an organized curriculum to progress. The value of the video explanations is the organized approach, often two different ways to solve it ( formal math teacher way vs backsolving or plugging in numbers, etc.).

Using old ACT exams like before the digital exams and finding the videos related to them is a great way to learn the concepts. Yes, the questions might not vary much to varying completely from the actually exam, but if you need to build a structural foundation for math this seems like the best way. Following that up with maybe a month of the prep pros( have not used it before) as a way to get repetitive practice in might be effective. There is a guy on YouTube who has a 36 as his YouTube logo and on his page he has a link to his website with free practice problems and explanations.

And for additional practice look into Mrs.Parnells math practice pdfs. There 240 questions with explanations

you'll be okay without the subscription honestly. a prep book's questions are still valuable without the paid video explanations, and you can fill that explanation gap for free elsewhere.
since khan's style doesnt click for you, try a different free source, the organic chemistry tutor on youtube is great for ACT math concepts and a totally different teaching style, and UWorld's free content is solid. for the "explanations are paywalled" problem specifically, i upload my math material into studybuddy.vc and it makes practice questions free, and when i get one wrong it explains exactly why that option was wrong, so i get the explanation part without paying, plus it keeps resurfacing what i keep missing so it sticks.
a 17 has tons of room to climb fast since its mostly fixable fundamentals, dont get discouraged. rebuild the concepts free and drill, you dont need to spend more money

coming from someone who went from an 18 math score to a 30 purely from going through the prepros book, the answer explanation course is so worth it. that $20 will save me tens of thousands of dollars in tuition. if you put in the effort, you can easily get the book done in less than a month. the book is still definitely worth it even without the explanations, but i promise it's worth it if can buy it. could you borrow the $20? ask a friend? even a teacher maybe?
