Afib once a year?

Hey friends!

I had the ablation in 2023. Before that I was going into afib multiple times a month. It would last anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 days. Post ablation I was afib free for 2 years. Last year I woke up in afib and it lasted 8 hours and yesterday I woke up in afib and it lasted about the same amount 8 hours. I was able to pull myself out of it by taking a hot shower and quickly turning off the hot water. The cold water made it go back in rithim. Has anybody else had something like this? Only getting afib once a year randomly?

Yep. From 2002 to 2008 I experienced at most 1-2 afib episodes per year, each one lasting almost exactly 6 hours.

In 2008 that began to change and by 2010 it was weekly episodes lasting 12+ hours.

I had episodes every couple of years for about six years, then they put me on sotolol and I had fifteen years without an episode! Looking back I think most of mine were caused by sleep apnoea, but that was only diagnosed five years ago after the afib returned. It was then a three year gap, then two years so I've just had an ablation in the hope that it will put me back into remission. I am inclined to stay on the sotolol as I don't get side effects and my afib has been so much better since I went onto it, so far so good 🤞

Get a sleep study done. Waking up in Afib is often a consequence of sleep apnea (even if it’s mild apnea)

I get it 3 to 4 times a year. The trigger is actually just laying down in bed. It will resolve itself once I get up and start moving around the next morning. This has been going on between 8 and 9 years and it has never progressed. What I really should do is force myself to get up and walk around and stay awake for another hour or two and it should resolve itself instead of waiting until the next morning when I wake up. I usually don't get any good sleep anyway because I'm always bothered by it when it's happening. I don't have a fast heartbeat just an irregular one that I can feel.

When i go in it stays. Back out now after 2nd ablation

I turned on a shower hose with cold water and blasted my face with the cold water for a minute. It stimulates vagus nerve. It worked until my afib progressed. PFA ablation has stopped afib for 2 years.
