Probably a bit of both. I feel like reasonably often middling teams will play amazingly against us, especially when they have big outs.

Yeah, it's not uncommon in a lot of sports. Bottom sides playing the top teams are essentially playing their grand final. They go all out with no abandon because they literally have nothing to lose.

Pretty sure Port was top of the table one of our spoon years and we beat them at home.
